Thanks, everyone. I went from 98 to XP too, and I like XP a lot better, but everyone has his/her own opinion, which is what I wanted to know. I never had 2000, so I can't compare as far as that goes, but I have heard MANY TIMES over that ME was a nightmare.

Miror...is that right?? Because...I only have a 4GB(I know, I know..let's not go there!!) hard drive for now, and I have XP...plus Cian helped me figure out how to install SP2 on it recently(JUST!) so..how can it take 8?? Just wondering what I'm missing here.... :) M.

hard drive space isn't memory

it does require lots of ram to run, i'm upgrading mine to 512 mb this week as i'm tired of the low memory notices.

i jumped from win 95 to xp btw.

only had 1 cup o coffee so far.. cut me some slack :P

the big difference between Windows system and Linux system is simple...

I believe the OP was asking for comparisons between Windows XP and other Windows OSs, not Linux. Otherwise I'd be singing the praises of Mac OS X over XP. ;)

ME sucked. i've run into some who claim the last edition of 98 was the best one though.

98 Second Edition was the best version of the old "DOS" based Windows, for sure. Its not a patch on Win 2K or the current XP as an OS though.

see quote above... saw "diff between Windows n other OS" .. missed the other "windows" part in there. not to mention.. OSX for mac has unix/linux kernal ;)

and Michelle... yes unfortunately XP is sitting on about 12gig of my HD here... i got lazy when installing it and just chose "standard" installation... so a lot got loaded in that probably doesnt need to be. not to mention SP2, security fixes, patches et al since XP came out. it is a big resource (thats for you Charles!) hog.

No, Mac OS X does not have the Linux kernel. It has a UNIX kernel based off Mach and FreeBSD, it has nothing to do with Linux.

I still have Win 98SE on my computer at home, but at work we have XP. Maybe, some of the technical things are improved with OS upgrades, but doing the day to day work doesn't seem to be helped.

Every time they upgrade at work programs don't work the same way as the old programs, so you have to waste time learning a new way of doing what you already knew how to do and in the end it doesn't make what you were doing any faster or easier.

I never trust Windows!! I have a 80gb Internal hard drive, and back everything up on a 80GB external drive!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
