Start of our Visa journey!

Hi everyone kinda new here but ive been reading a lot of topics here where in i can get a information about what to expect on these journey were im in right now, anyway i hope i post on a right topic or discussion here pls bear with me.

I am Filipina and got married May 17,2011 to an American citizen guy and yes like all of some members here we met online too we met June 2010 and he came here for the first time to meet me October last year after chatting and talking on the phone almost everyday and he did proposed to me in front of everybody then went back again last April to marry me.Now he finally completed all the initial requirements needed to file a petition for me and send it Aug. 15,2011 and should i say this will be the start of our visa journey? hehe...

Just a few questions tho hope i can get answwers for my peace of mind lol!...How long does it takes the whole process of petition for spouse and when do we get a first notice after we've submitted the initial requirements for USCIS saying that our application are ok?(sorry i dnt know yet the terms... )

What was the marriage license process like here in the Phils, and did you do civil or catholic?

Re: Marriage license since you are an american citizen you have to get a " CAPACITY TO MARRY" here at US embassy manila and for you to do that log on their website and set an appointment then after that you have to bring that certificate together with other requirements to Civil Office where your applying for then wait for another 10 days for the released of your Marriage License

Thanks ate Jen. I saw that I have to get that from the citizen services at the embassy. How much did you pay for the marriage license itself?

Oh gosh can't remember how much was it but its very minimal, but i paid P3,000 to the officiating guy (not bad tho) coz i had a garden wedding so he went to the place, but if you opt for civil wedding right there in the civil office it will cost you around 2,000 i guess
