you and your spouse have 3 vehicles, one falling apart, and 2 good. you order a car and you absolutely love the front design of it. you specifically ask for no front license plate bracket (which would cost you an extra $15). The car is silver and now there's this ugly black thing right on your favorite spot of the car. You know it'll take another 2 months to get a new one made. It's costing you a small fortune and you want it to be perfect.

Would you return it or just take it?

If they can't fix the car to your satisfaction, don't take delivery. Tell them to give you a free rental until the problem is resolved.

As far as wrong orders, food that is not prepared well, et cetera, I send it back to the kitchen, and just don't pay for the meal. If service is not prompt, I walk out as well, I just inform the management that I am doing so.

I'd imagine they would just let you keep the car and call you in a few days when a brand new front bumper came in....You'd come into the shop, wait a half hour, and they would replace the bumper...

that's exactly my thoughts. they made a mistake, fix it. they said it's a $1000 new bumper so they wouldn't do it. charles said if we order another one they might make the same mistake. my thoughts, we're not ordering from the right people if they can't get it right.

i still don't understand why he's ordering from a place 2.5 hours away if we could order right here in town...

If I were the salesperson at the dealership and I wanted to sell something to someone and I made a mistake, I'd prefer to take a money loss, fix it and sell it anyway, than losing that client. it's the second time we buy a vehicle from them. it has been established we're loyal customers, but if the guy thinks it's going to be bad for business to lose $1000, so be it, I'll take my business someplace else.

The salesman made a flat $100 tops for the sale of a ordered car. The factory doesn't put the license plate bracket on the vehicle.. the dealership prep department does. No telling if this is the fault of the prep person for not reading notes left, or the sales person for not getting the message to them or a combination of the two. Its probably not the salespersons fault but even if is, given he made $100 not likely to want to go in his/her pocket for $1000 plus the shop time to install a new bumper makes no sense. Customers like this he is probably more than happy to have go down the road and shop somewhere else. They can plug the bumper with small color matching plugs more than likely the factory makes divots in the bumper to direct where to drill the holes anyway.

In the scheme of things a license plate bracket is a small deal, but some customers are more "difficult" if that is the word for it. I would take the car and go on about life, but some people are more into making mountains out of mole hills than others. 100 years from now will it make any difference ? If not do no drama is my motto

Just unbolt the plate bracket. Have them "repair" any holes left behind.

It happens every now and then.

(Dad was a new car dealer.)

Most manufacturers have Dealer Satisfaction Representatives. If the dealer managers and owners have the above attitude, call them. They will jump down the dealer's throat.

this is what we decided to do. they will fix the car, cover the holes and repaint it. so we'll be keeping it. it'll cost us an extra $300 and it'll cost the dealership $300 and us as customers.

The dealership isn't picking up the tab? If you told the salesperson that you didn't want it there should be no issue. Even if it's in a kind of "gray area" as far as was it written down or not, they are making a huge blunder. No wonder people have such poor opinions of car dealers.

This is why when my dad called me in college and asking if I wanted the business I said no.
