Hello! My fiancée which is now my wife came in the US with a fiancée visa. She got here on May 7, 2011 and we got married on May 27. We are now in the process of adjusting here status but something is bothering her. She was told that we need to report our marriage to the US Embassy in the Philippines or the Philippine Consulate that is near to where we live. Is this true? Do we really need to the that, and if so how can we report our marriage? Thank you in advance.

Hi, i can remember we are batch mates on our journey on our visas. We, Filipinas, have an OPTION to report our marriage to the Embassy of the Philippines. I actually asked this before here in VJ. But they say, if you are working on to be a US Citizen eventually, there's no point that. The CFO seminar we had in PI mentioned that for a reason that they have a copy of your marriage and thats it. Here in Hawaii, i checked through the internet how much, it is at least 25 or 30 $ to report a marriage and the official website didnt say anything on why to do it and what are the advantages. wasting 30 bucks for no reason i think. so for us, we didnt bother.

I did report my marriage to the nearest consulate which is Washington DC. The reason for doing this is if u have an expiring Philippine Passport and u want to renew it..one main requirement is report of marriage. You can not renew ur Phil. Passport if u don't report ur marriage. If ur passpodt is still good till u apply for citizenship then i guess no need for u to renew it.
