Hello Everybody,

My name is Abraham, and I'll soon be filing a petition for a K-1 Visa for my fiance, Sakie, who is currently living in Japan. I have been having some problems with the application (which I think is a bad sign, since its only 3 pages long), primarily with using her address to fill in the blanks (She's living a rural district of Yamagata, so its not really a city, state, street address kind of thing). I was referred to this forum by a friend in hopes of finding answers, but amount of information here has actually started to get me nervous.

My fiance is a pretty soft spoken young woman anyway, and like many Japanese, is prone to just letting things run their course. It seems like this is not the attitude we need to have if we hope to have her in the country by our desired wedding date (July 7th, 2012).

I guess my questions are:

where can I go to resolve my issue with the address section of the form?

Is getting married on July 7th a pipe-dream?

What is the best way to make full use of this forum during our application process? (I'd rather not pester forum members with every little question if there is a way to find all the info on my own)

If her mailing address is too long or does not conform clearly to the boxes, then put "see attached" and make a little supplement with her correct address on it, however it is. I have seen people on here with addresses like "3 miles south of the old bridge" because that is actually how their mail gets to them.

July 7 next year? Sounds good, but it is never good to make concrete plans, so keep them flexible if possible.

Fill it in the best way you can. The USCIS will understand that addresses abroad are vastly different that US.

It is a lot of information, so read for a good couple of days. If you and your fiance's situation is not complicated

it is not that difficult to follow the instructions. You will be glad you found this site as it will become your lifeline.

If there is ever a time to become ####### about something, this is it. Double check and triple check everything. Also,

this will require a lot of patience.

Search button on the upper right hand corner. Use it! Questions you will come up with has already been asked

a thousand times over. When you get stuck, post your question on the K-1 forum. If it is specifically about the

process in Japan, post it in the Japan regional forum.

You have 11 months prior to your scheduled wedding. If you start now, you should have no problem. K-1 averages

about 7-9 months. We got lucky as we were with California Service Center. By the time my fiance gets to California

on Sept 2, it will be a total of 5 months.

You may not be able to follow my example but it might help.

My mother's address spelled out in Japanese style (translated):

prefecture-city-ward-township-physical address number: postal code

in English form (as in Part B of I129F), I would fill in as follows:

Address (Number and Street): physical address number, township, ward

Town or City: Prefecture

State or Contry: Japan

Zip/Postal Code: 7-digit postal code

I tried to fit Yamagata and Japan in the state or country section, but they don't fit. If your fiancee's address contains the name of the building (i.e. mashion blah blah or Villa blah blah or whatever), you can omit that. Jp post knows how to handle them. I don't think it's too strict anyway, but if you can write down something similar to what I did for my mother's address, I might be of further help.

I will finish the petition now, and have it ready to go when I get the thumbs up from my fiance.

I forgot to mention that right now we are waiting for her to talk face-to-face with her parents to get approval to move foreward with the paperwork. (I haven't quite met their requirements for marriage yet, but I will by the time the paperwork goes through). I hope they will be reasonable about it.
