Well, it was a simple performance and approval process at USEM today, and by bebeko was APPROVED!! Yeah, after all these months.... So happy to have completed another step.

However... we planned for her to go there now, so that her visa will be good until early Feb, when I will arrive back in the US myself (late Jan or early Feb). But the CO told her that her visa will only be good until 14 Jan!! Why only 5 months? This is a huge problem for us, since I cannot leave here until at least 21 Jan. Any idea why this happened?

Check the sticker on her passport by SLMEC from her medical, visa is usually issued depending on the validity of the medical exam. If she went to get her medical 1 month before her interview date then the visa will be valid for 5 months. I took my medical exam June 30,2011 had my interview July 7, 2011 my visa is valid 'til December 30,2011.

Congrats! The Visa is valid for 5 months but she is allowed to stay in the US for another 90 days after she entered. So make her enter the US, maybe in December and then she will have 90 days more to stay legally but you have to be sure to marry within that 90 days. When she enters the US, the Visa automatically expires and the Immigration Officer at the POE will stamp her passport with another "expiration" date.

Good Luck on your journey.

Bear in mind that her k1 visa will no longer be valid when she enters the US, and what will matter is the 90 days stamped on her i94 :) You will have to marry within those 90 days

My Journey:

We met through a study-abroad program in Shanghai, China in August of 2009

We got engaged March of 2010

I received my K1 VISA in 6 months (June-December 2010)

We were married 04/02/2011
I received my conditional 2-year greencard (AOS) in 2.5 months with no interview (April-June 2011)

Our son was born 02/03/2013

I received my masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology 04/17/2013

I received my 10-year greencard (ROC) in 3 months with no interview (March-June 2013)

My husband returned from deployment 06/20/2013

My naturalization journey took 4 months (April-August 2014)

I became a US citizen on 08/01/2014

Received passport in 3 weeks (regular processing)

Thank you, VJ! smile.png

Congrats on the approval. you don't want her to go to the USA now if you will not be there until at least Jan 21st. the expiration of the visa is the date by which she must enter the USA. after entering the USA, you must marry within 90 days, the expiration of the I-94.

Might be the dates on the medical, she might have to travel to us on her own.

In Arizona its hot hot hot.

Congratz Dave and Roxy !!! :star:

Dave...That one-week gap sucks. I'm thinking that a letter to the USEM from an active-duty soldier who's deployed might do the trick.

I'd go this route first. If that fails, I would request a two-week curtailment from your deployment from your deployed commander.
