Moving my belongings before I have my visa?

Here's the deal.

We have our interview set for August 26th. With the assumption that we are approved, I return home and wait for the visa. A week after the interview my husband has a long weekend from work (Labour Day). We were thinking that this would be the best time to move my stuff since he normally works 6 day weeks (he lives 3 hours from me). Since the chance of my having my visa in hand 5 business days later is nil we have been discussing the possibility of him moving my stuff without me. Is this legal/acceptable? I don't have much moving to the US with me. About 2 medium sized boxes. We were thinking that he could show the officer our documents and explain the circumstances as this is the most convenient weekend to move. I do not have a license so I cannot move the stuff alone on a later date and his next long weekend is Thanksgiving. Has anyone else run into a similar situation?

Your husband can move your stuff anytime. Shouldn't be a problem.

September 1, 2011: NVC case number assigned
September 2, 2011: AOS invoice received, OPTIN email for EP sent
September 7, 2011: Paid AOS bill (payment portal showed PAID on September 9, 2011)
September 8, 2011: OPTIN email accepted, GZO number assigned
September 10, 2011: Emailed AOS package
September 12, 2011: IV bill invoiced
September 13, 2011: Paid IV bill (payment portal showed PAID on September 14, 2011)
September 14, 2011: Emailed IV package
October 3, 2011: Emailed checklist response (checklist generated due to typo on Form DS-230)
October 6, 2011: Case complete at NVC
November 10, 2011: Interview - APPROVED!!!
December 7, 2011: POE - Sea-Tac Airport

September 17, 2013: Mailed I-751 to CSC

September 23, 2013: Received NOA1 in mail (receipt date September 19th)

October 16, 2013: Biometrics Appointment

January 28, 2014: Production of new Green Card ordered

February 3, 2014: New Green Card received; done with USCIS until fall of 2023*

December 18, 2023:  Filed I-90 to renew Green Card

December 21, 2023:  Production of new Green Card ordered - will be seeing USCIS again every 10 years for renewal

Read some experiences

In the last thread, you'll read that the OP was admitted with her stuff twice...and then refused. So it is up to the CBP whether you get to move stuff before your visa is in hand.

My husband had our car searched when he said he was bringing my stuff in. He was allowed in but warned not to do it again

I wouldn't try it myself because there's a chance of refusal. Also, I got my Visa 72 hours after my interview so maybe yours will arrrive on time. Good luck!

I wouldn't try it myself because there's a chance of refusal. Also, I got my Visa 72 hours after my interview so maybe yours will arrrive on time. Good luck!

Why would that be a problem? As long as you don't have a problem with your husband moving the stuff there should be no problem at all.

Southern Alberta.... they sent the Visa out Wednesday afternoon and I had it in hand by noon on Friday. Hope your goes just as fast!:dance:

Why would that be a problem? As long as you don’t have a problem with your husband moving the stuff there should be no problem at all.

There actually is a problem. the US CBP can refust your things because there is not a proper visa to permit them to enter. It is all up to the CBP, if you read the links I posted, you'll see the problem

Shouldn't be a problem. Just tell CBP what you are doing. Having a copy of the interview letter might help.

Shouldn't be a problem. Just tell CBP what you are doing. Having a copy of the interview letter might help.

Thats exactly what I was thinking... Having my husband take any documents that might help prove that we were approved and just waiting on visa. The answers here seem so mixed though that I'm starting to think it might be better to be safe than sorry and just not do it. I was telling him last night that I wish his long vacation was 2 weeks later but what can be done?! :)
