OK, my wife called USCIS on 7/19 to ask if maybe we had missed our interview letter or something since it was so close the 4 month mark. They said they couldn't tell her anything yet and to "wait a couple more days since you are a little short of 4 months and, if there was no news. to call again to put in a service request"; however, they said that was very close to have not received an interview letter as of yet if it was in the local office, so they gave her a reference number and said to call back at 4 the month mark.

Today, she called back to find out what is going on with her case because it is now outside of the normal processing time. They refused to let her speak to a Tier 2 representative because they said her call of July 19th gave them 30 days to respond and they didn't have to let her speak to anyone else??? And, if she wants to know anything before then, she needs to make an InfoPass appointment, where they may or may not be able to tell her anything because the Tier 1 rep. couldn't/wouldn't even tell her if it was in our local office..

Is this for real or was this classic USCIS mis-information line? Can I call on her behalf? She doesn't speak English and I'm not sure if they provide Tier 2 service in Spanish...

A service request causes another 30 days to be added on of waiting.

Even though they told her to call back and do a service request later on it seems like they did give her a service request anyways because they gave her a reference number.

Either way sounds like the person on the phone was an A** and you need to call and get someone else and ask again for T2. Make sure to get the name of the person on the phone so you can send a report against them the next time they are rude like that.

I think we will try for an InfoPass next week when I'll have some free time. Luckily, the office isn't far away and I guess, since they filed a service request on 7/19 even though it was a bit early, they have to get back to us with something by 8/18.

You can call the line together and have your wife designate you as her "interpreter" so you can do the talking. Your wife can work and travel, and while I understand you are frustrated, your file is probably at the local office waiting in line. INFOPASS sounds like a good idea, but you can't force them to schedule an interview if other people are ahead of you in the line.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

Truly, it is less frustration than concern about something being lost - the case itself, an interview letter (although I know the minute I press 'Submit' on buying plane tickets for a trip we want to take, the interview date will be set right in the middle of it!) My concern is that our local office is processing on time, which should mean that those getting interview letters today sent their cases in about a month after hers - unless the data on the USCIS site for the local office processing time is incorrect.

InfoPass it is as I will have time during normal business hours next week. The last thing I want is an automatic denial for failure to appear, especially if we were never told.

Thanks Kenny... Hope everything is going well for you guys.

I think we finally found the problem - and only because we were going to make an InfoPASS appointment and the A# on the I-485 receipt didn't match her A#.

It turns out that it was a simple typo on her A# on the I-485 form we submitted. I think the case has been sitting somewhere waiting to be matched up to the biometrics data which were taken under her correct A#. Without that match, there was probably nothing to trigger that the case was ready to move on to the next step.

We called USCIS last night to have it fixed but at the time we thought it was their error. It turns out it was our error, so she's calling them again today to see if we need to do anything differently to correct it. Hopefully, when it is corrected, everything will be put back into motion and it'll process normally from that point on. Probably a set-back of 2-3 months for a one digit typo. headbonk.gif
