Taking a bullet for you or me isn't what I'd call an "extra benefit " or necessarily a chosen profession. Many do it out of duty to one's country and to fellow countrymen/women. IED's are nondiscriminatory also. Do you get over out of the fast lane when a patrolman is behind you? I will wait my place in line gladly to give our service members a bit of respite in this chaotic world. Thanks again for your service and best of luck OP with your Journey.

Bob

bob, these are all nice words. however, this is not about giving up a place in line. this is more about sense of entitlement. when you give up the lane to the police car the chances are they are pursuing criminal not racing to their own wedding. thus i do not think this is right analogy.. in addition, i would like to truly ask all the military personnel: what was the reason for joining military? this is profession. one of the professions and i personally respect any profession. benefits designed by the government are designed to show this respect.

and I do wish the best of luck to the OP in expediting things. in every post that tries to expedite i wish the best of luck and think that they should do it if they can. if i could expedite i would without hesitation. i just don't share being angry with NVC and citing the profession as justification.

Yes, they are nice words, and not just hot air. The OP is CR1 IR1 so more than likely he's not racing to his wedding, maybe to see his wife for the last time in a year or more. You lack any compassion for others in a difficult situation apparently.

I really don't get where you are coming from on this one and I'll leave it at that instead of getting my bp up. Obviously the OP is very frustrated with the system and is seeking the guidance that is out there to help him out some. He didn't really ask for career advice from us at VJ. Hope your journey and life goes as well as you wish it to.

Mybe I misunderstood the post. If I did I apologize. While I have greatest respect for military personnel I just do not see why military personnel has to get their documents processed faster than any other people? All of us are tax payers, all of us are USC. All of us are working. All of us want to be with their loved ones. The fact that you are military does not mean that you love more or that you want to be with your loved ones more than other people. Military do enjoy more benefits that the rest of us. However, being with the loved ones is the same for everyone. These are just my 2 cents. Being in the military is your personal choice. Choice of profession. No entitlement to privileges that are outside of usual military privileges. I apologize if I misunderstood the post. Good luck!

Military expedite is something that is granted many times by USCIS / NVC and US embassy. It is done so because they may DIE on deployment before they can be with or marry the person they love. They may be critically injured and need their wife at home when they return. Deployment to an active combat zone generally grants an expedite. But you need to have the proof.

Being with a loved one is NOT the same for military members. Because you never know if your husband or wife will actually come home or if they will come home missing arms and legs or severely traumatized for the rest of their life from the war.

Sorry, I do not know how to quote but both of you said it beautifully.

I think the whole system is hosed!! Not just for the military but for everyone. I don't know why things take as long as they do - I know if I spent this much time on any single task I would be out of business. We need immigration reform and it starts with our congress getting the message from we the people. Personally being former military, I want the service people to get to the head of the line - they deserve it!! Not just because they chose the military for a career, but because they make sacrifices daily for our well-being - it is truly the least we can do.

I am in the same position - NVC approved and no interview scheduled - I believe it is the embassy that is the hold-up and no one can give a date when you "might" be able to get in. It is a crappy position to be in, but what can you do? I guess it wouldn't hurt to get the congressmen or senator involved - anything to expedite things!! Good luck - I am truly sorry we have the type of people and systems in place that have made what should be a joyous time instead a stressful and frustrating experience.

I agree with Brit on contacting the military help line. You may get through faster.

I can't believe what I am reading here! In general things are expedited BECAUSE of military affliation. There are so many reasons for this. Military folks are in high combat zones and an order to go to these areas can be cut at any given time. Yes we understand that tax paying citizens are deserving of the same treatment (and I agree!). However, it is not always easy to be fighting for a country, giving up your entire life to loose your hearing, sight, leg, arm, LIFE and have to live with LOSS for the rest of your life if you survive to not receive some compensation or priveleges.

When you become a veteran that honor of knowing you fought for your country is worth it and many have to live wih serious losses for the very country they fight for.

If you do not think they deserve special priveleges, then try doing what they do with the greatest strain on the family and then see.

They were brave enough to sign up and fight; they need to be treated well.

That's my 2cents.

Benefits designed by the government are designed to show this respect.

Exactly. instead of us saying thank you for your service to the original poster we complain that he/she is giving up his/her's life and should not deserve special priveleges.

There are some jobs that any citizen can undergo and there is no nebefit attached no health insurance, no nothing. And other jobs you get benefits. Same for military. Sign of respect.

Thank you original poster for your service. Please return to us safely and I hope it all works out for you.

Of course Military service is a personal choice of profession and if I or many others were not “Volunteers” then who do you think would be fighting these wars? The obvious answer would be whomever the government decided via a draft, possibly many of you and certainly at that point attitudes would change regarding military service members and their foreign born dependants being expedited or pushed through before a deployment.

The military has very strict regulations regarding a service members availability for deployment and the dependant (foreign born or not) is a huge player in the process of deploying or not. Essentially and in very general terms if an extenuating circumstance exists with the dependant then every effort is made to resolve it before deployment. Yes, because they may die on a deployment but also to ensure the soldiers mind is focused on the task at hand which he is better able to do when he knows that his family is secure rather than worrying about his or her dependants status and security .

And to San Diego, so you grew up in a Military family and your Father served 25 years in the Navy, good for you and much respect to your Father. Although it is doubtful you have no idea what it means to eyeball the enemy through a red-dot, never searched for an IED or never lived with and accepted the fact that your life could end at anytime and you would never see your family again. I’ll tell ya brother, live that life for 12-15 months and it changes a man. You have an opinion and like, well we all have them, but I would ask that you consider a person who lives and serves a purpose that is more important than his own life and maybe if you can see this then your opinion may change.

Grrr is not asking for favors or entitlements, he is simply asking for help to see his family before he deployed again and the government feels the same way by offering an expedited process and this alone should give respect to this service member.

Grrr, I don’t know you but I feel you, hang tough young warrior, lose the anger and have faith in God, everything happens for a reason. Listen to the folks on this forum as they can help guide you through the process.

Good luck
