Good morning good people of VJ!!! I have a quick question and I know if any body knows the answer you guys here at VJ do. My husband came on a K1 visa back in Nov 2010 he has his 2yr greencard. I want to know can he petition for his brother and his brother wife to come on a visiting visa or should I being the USC citizen write a letter of invitation for them. Now before everyone starts talking about it being impossible to get visitors visa out of Lagos I understand and am aware of that.....Trust I have dealt with Lagos long enough to know they are tough, high in fraud....etc etc. However my brother inlaw who is a doctor and his wife who is a lawyer in Lagos would like to come and visit so all I am asking is can my husband send a letter of invite for them being a permanent resident that came on K1 visa or should I be the one to send the letter of invite and show upport of them while they are here. Thanks in advance for your responses.

Patient2010, I believe it is very possible for them to get their visas, and easily at that too. I am not very familiar with tourist visa too but from the little I know, based on their professions you mentioned above, they have strong enough ties with their country. No good doctor or lawyer will want to leave their certainty for uncertainty.

Anyway, my suggestion is that you can write the letter and INCLUDE both you and ur husband. You are doing this as a couple. If it was ur sibling and his wife coming, that i can understand if you write the invitation letter alone, but this is ur spouse's sibling and his wife. I think doing this together will make more sense than just you. This is my 20 cents. All things being said though, I pray God gives you the wisdom to do the right thing and take the right step.

Go ahead and send out your letter of invitation...they will be granted 2yrs multiple entry. The issue with Lagos is that most people who have absolutely no business at the US embassy go and get themselves messed up. We attach too much importance to US visas...

It is not uncommon for doctors and lawyer to be denied out of Nigeria , supposedly Abuja is a bit easier on visitors requests. The Nakanu convention invites speakers from Nigeria all highly placed professionals and the running average is 6 out of 40 will get visas to the US.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Write a joint letter that explains you are inviting them to the US to visit you , include some of your plans , if they are date specific all the better, like going with you to XXX to see some event, State in the letter that you will be providing ( food, a place to live , ??? ) If there are hotels involved include whatever documents you can ( like ask the hotel for a writen estimate to reserve it for X days ) If there is some event that makes it important that they return mention that also.

I would say is write a joint letter that you both would be taking care of the living expense etc. I am not sure how that would impact as being a Doctor and Lawyer I am guessing they should be making enough money and they should have enough funds that they should be able to support their own trip.
