Hello all,

Could you please tell me what do I need to do in order to invite to US a good friend from Romania?

Is it a standard type letter? Or an affidavit support letter? What documents do I need to send to my friend in order to have him in US as a tourist?

Much appreciated,

V

You don't do anything, they apply for a tourist visa to visit USA in their own country. Not sure of the laws in Romania but I am sure someone will help out here.

Don't know about Romania, but in my case, (Philippines), I tried to help my step daughter get a visa to visit us. The consular official did not care about the letter, and would not even look at the letter. or proof of support. He looked at her visa application and passport; then disapproved her.

There is no such thing as a "home stay tourist visa." The B-2 visa is commonly refer to as the "visitor visa" and the "tourist visa." An invitation does not change the visa or allow the applicant to get a different visa.

Here is information from the US Embassy in Romania about invitation letters.

5. Is an invitation letter required?

One of the most common misconceptions regarding non-immigrant visas is that someone can act as a sponsor or offer to guarantee a person's return to their home country. We receive many such well-intentioned letters; however, U.S. immigration law makes no provisions for any such guarantees.

The fundamental rule of applying for a visa is that an applicant must qualify based on his or her own circumstances. If you wish to submit information to us in support of an applicant, please send it directly to the applicant. The applicant can then share it with us during his/her interview, or can include it with his/her documents.

You can write an invitational letter. It can have one of two possible effects:

1) The consular officer says: "wow, you have friends in the US. I will approve you."

2) The consular officer says: "wow, you have friends in the US. I cannot approve you."

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

B-2 Tourist Visa

The B-2 Tourist Visa is also known as the visitor visa. The B-2 Visitor Visa is approved for individuals who wish to enter United States for a temporary period for pleasure, travel to visit family, friends, engage in tourist activities or receive medical treatment. The B-2 Visitor Visa can also pertain to individuals who will accompany a spouse or partner who enters the United States on another visa status.
