hey whats a good place to get the certified translation of documents such as a birth certificate?

theres quite a few internet places so im just wondering which ones u trust and whats the best price out there..

i emailed one and they wanted 200 dollars for 1 page!!

To the best of my understanding (meaning what I have read here) translations do not have to be done by a certified translator but by someone who is competent to translate them. You may want to check out this possibility before forking over that $200.

I think that rule applies when we submit documents to USCIS. Maybe consulates/embassies do require certified translations.

It will be much cheaper to have them done in your fiancee's country. My Fiancee had them done for about 2000 rupees ( about $44 USD)

Often easiest and least expensively done in the native country. If no friend or associate can be found there who can read and write English, translation services can alway be found near the embassies of the English-speaking countries. 'Local' rates are almost always far less than US rates (that's why US companies 'export' service jobs).

I agree. What is required/accepted by USCIS can be different than what is required by DOS/Consulates. Generally consulates require that the translations be done by a certified translator. USCIS (for initial petition), accept translations of documents by someone that is conversant in both the english and foreign language and certifes as such, they do not have to be a certified translator.

i dont want her to go on a bus far......hmmm gonnna have to get some quotes i guess.. theres a guy here in tampa that may do it..

i dunno about u guys but i just like to get things done ASAP i dont like to wait....

and shes here with me right now....and not leaving until octoberish.. (paperwork should be waiting for her by then...) and she will have enough to do...

Since I don´t know how it works in Portugal so I only can tell you what I did about my birth certificate here in germany.

the birth certificate has to be translated and notarized we got told but here in germany I could get a international birth certificate which is in multi language (engl. french, spanish, greek etc.)

so I would suggest you to check with that institution at your town (town hall, registry office) where you usually would get a birth certificate and ask there for an international birth certificate.

I had to pay 8€ for it but of course the fee will vary from country to country.
