if u sure he is coming soon, so i think its better idea save cash, but if u still in process and in long waiting game, i think going there would make him happy, plus if u really can afford it

His interview is Oct 17 and I am not sure but if no word by December I was thinking to buy for February 1st. But I am not sure. I want to go soon becuase I miss him so much but when he gets here I know that the english school will cost a lot.

save money whilst you can....there are many many expenses after they arrive that are completely unexpected. if you have the extra cash flow to go ...... by all means go......just remember that once he's here, he ain't goin nowhere for a LONG time...so this is only a temporary separation...... just my 2 cents (F)

Private,

that was also my plan.... that if Said wasn't here by December (Christmas), i was going to go right after Christmas for a visit. I really don't have the money but I was hoping to save enough by then. I suggest you still save the money, either way, you'll need it. It's likely that *if* things go smoothly, your fiance will be here by the end of December and you'll need that extra cash. If he's not here, then you still have that extra cash to go for a visit, inch'allah. Good luck to you... we are scheduled just a couple of weeks before your interview. Will be posting how it all goes.

just off the top of my head:

increase in

-food

-utility bills (water, electric, ac/heat)

-fees for filing more paperwork

-clothing costs

-gas and vehicle maintenance costs associated with visits to various offices (ss office, uscis office, etc)

Yes, these are good. Although they might not be "unexpected", they're something to consider nevertheless.

Plus factor in the amount of time that he won't be able to work due to waiting for the EAD.

We had to buy my husband winter clothes, boots, jacket, since he had none.

Public transportation expenses, cell phone for him

I am one of those who freaked out at the end and went to Morocco for the interview. I don't regret it one bit and who knows what could have happened if I wasn't there. It helped with support for Hicham since he was nervous and also telling the CO that I was there and Hicham having my passport with him in the Consulate. I would say if you can afford it- go for the interview but that's just my opinion.

Good luck!

I went a few months before Tamer's interview, but then again, we hadn't seen each other in nearly 2 years at that point

I'm not sure if I would do it again. I love Egypt and deseperately needed the vacation, but on the other hand, the $2000 would have come in very handy this last year.

Sorry, I'm kinda wishy washy. Not much of a help

We had extra expenses due to the fact that he forgot somehow to pack clothes.... one entire suitcase was filled with food his sister and mother said he would need, so they took his clothes out.... it was sweet... so I got to show him Wal-mart, but needing the basic things (socks, shoes, personal items) things like that we don't think about ahead of time do add up... :D

mine brought clothes...but soon realized that the lifestyle here is so different from there...after just a couple weeks he was ready for more clothes.

My electric bill went up nearly 50 dollars per month

water bill went up around 30 dollars

gas for the car went up around 100 dollars (now i have to fill once/wk instead of once/month)

food went from 75 dollars a month to 175 dollars per week

then the other certain "needed" things for the home ...probably coming close to costing around 800 dollars

those are all guestimations but pretty close...and that list doesn't include fees and stuff to the government and driving fees and allllll that other stuff

The way I decided to go for the Interview was this: I didn't want to give them any reason to deny us. I have seen the wrath of this Consulate before and it is not pretty- they are very unpredictable. I decided I would rather spend the money now to be there for the interview rather than have a better chance of denial and spend the money later to go see him if we got denied.

I would say if you have been there at least 2 times, then you would probably be fine not being there.

Some people get the visa the very next day through Casa even if they have only visited one time. It's a tough call but good luck!
