I never received any affidavit of support paperwork from the NVC like the resources on this site say I should have. I payed the $88 fee. Never the less, I can find them online and fill them out. I'm working on the I-864 and it seems pretty self explanatory. I have the income necessary to show I can support my family. However, the job I have is a new one, and previously I haven't earned very much. As an added security, my parents agreed to joint sponsor with me. They haven't filled anything out yet, so here I am asking: What document do they need to fill out? The I-864? Some other document? Is there anywhere I need to state on my I-864 that this will be filed jointly? If so, please indicate what number on the document.

Quick background: I married a single-mom while in her native country (Peru) and am working to bring her and our son to the US. I filed an I-130 for her and the child individually.

Check to see if the AOS fee status has been updated to "Paid". Then you can print the AOS Cover sheet - this is important document to be sent with other I-864 and related documents without waiting for any email from NVC.

Ok, I've been reviewing the I-864 and I've notice some things that i'm not sure about. First, item 21 has me determine the household size. That's fine for me, I just put the 2 that I'm sponsoring and myself which is already marked with a 1. But what should my parents put? They're going to have to declare themselves on the document: 2 being sponsored, 1 "yourself" and 1 spouse. It'll add up to 4. It'll also imply that they will be included into the household, which they will not. Also below on item 24 it gives me the option to state a combined income with someone else in my household. This would remain blank, because this is not a 'household member' type of assisted sponsorship, but with the above item, it seems it would seem that way.

If your parents are going to be joint sponsors and their combined income is needed then one parent completes an I-864 and the other does an I-864A.

Is the child your child, or your wife's child? Are you the biological father?

Hmmm, after reviewing some things, I wonder if I really need a joint sponsor. I earn 30k which is above the required threshold for a family of 3. The main reason I planned to have a joint sponsor was because I have only recently begun that job. My tax returns for the last 3 years do not reflect such an income. I've already had my employer sign a letter stating my yearly income level as proof of income. Having that, do you believe I need a joint sponsor?

The employer letter should state your position, length of service, and rate of pay. You support that claim with recent paystubs as well.

Current and continuing income is what is evaluated. An income of $30K will meet the requirement for a household of 3.

The interviewing officer makes the final decision regarding sponsor eligibility. Starting a new job at a higher rate is a good thing.
