Hi, my husband is an Irish Citizen and I am a US citizen. We filed for Cr-1 visa and got the NOA 1 in the mail 04/13/11 and still waiting on the NOA 2. Does anyone know the wait time for Ireland? Also we have a four month old daughter together, and I am recieving food stamps. should I cancel them or will that affect his visa? Thanks

Hi there!

You are looking at about 9-12 months from submission to interview. With luck, he may be in the US by Christmas but I wouldn't make definite plans- he can visit on the visa waiver program during the processing though.

You being on food stamps is ok, as you are the US citizen, but how will you fulfill the affidavit of support? If you have a co-sponsor you'll be ok.

Thanks. Really? Why so long? I have seen lots of people get theres between 5 and 8 months, but i couldnt find anyone that was Irish. I cancelled the food stamps already because I dont NEED them but it was nice to have them with him being so far away (he is currently working in Australia). Why did your's take such a short time?

Also I heard that if you have children together, you jump to the front of the list, is that true? I am going to Ireland at the end of August and hes meeting me and our daughter there, then we are coming back here, and if we haven't recieved his visa, he was going to stay as long as he could on tourist visa which is 3 months or 90 days. Thats why we have saved up so much money from his current job, incase he wouldnt be able to work. I just started work as a nanny so I should actually be making enough to show I can support him. Sorry Im asking so many questions, its all pretty new to me

Welcome

If he comes on the VWP don't stretch it to 90 days. I always go 87 or 88 days incase of canceled flight from

Thanks for that! We will be back here September 15th and were planning on leaving to go to Ireland to visit his family around the 1st of December for Christmas, how many times can he visit while the process is ongoing?

I'm no expert but two visits upto 90 days or 180 days a year. He can also come on shorter visits as times as you can afford . just not over 90 days or 180 days a year. Read the guides. Check the Irish portal to find more of us from IRE

No line jumping. As others have said, no line jumping and he can stay a max of 90 days at a time, no more than 180 days in a year. If he comes a lot/ for long time, it is best to bring ties to Ireland to proof he will return.

I'd be very surprised if you'd seen any cases taking 5 months for everything from start to finish unless they were expedited (ie when the US citizen is in the military), or DCF cases like mine. DCF is when you file with the US embassy abroad directly. You can only do this if the US citizen has been living abroad legally for at least 6 months; it's basically for couples who live abroad and then decide to move the whole family back to the USA. 8 months is definitely possible though, especially if you are prepared ahead of time for every step (check out the Guides on VJ for tips and what to expect next).
