There is nothing wrong with doing this ahead of time.. I did that for my husband..!

you must await the bar-code - go ahead to send it.

siebu09,

Yes, it's a very good idea to prepare the DS-230 ahead of time... so when the time comes that you receive instruction from NVC to send it, it will be ready to send and can be done quickly. JUST REMEMBER: your wife can sign it (PART 1 ONLY), BUT it's a better idea to date the signature AFTER you receive notice from NVC to send the DS-230. Otherwise, yes, be proactive and help reduce your time by preparing all your docs now. (AGAIN, make sure your wife DOES NOT sign or date Part II of the DS-230 - she will do that on the interview day.

The barcode will be generated after you pay the IV (immigrant visa fee). You should be able to print it after your fee payment shows 'PAID' on the payment portal. YES... you must absolutely print and submit the barcode sheet as the cover sheet of your DS-230. This is the only way NVC has to match up your documents with your case file as soon as possible and efficiently once your documents arrive at NVC. (Same goes for email / Electronic Processing too).

Thanks for the answer :) Aside from the bar coded cover sheet that I'll get after we pay the IV fee online..Did the DS230 form has a barcode also like the DS3032??Thanks again Bleauwolf :)

In regards to DS 230 PART 1 you can fill it out ahead of time and have your wife sign it. Once the embassy receives your case you can submit the form which gets your interview scheduled. In my case we emailed the signed form to the embassy and also dropped of the hard copy (I was in Jamaica and delivered it during the Us Citizen Assistance time). Another option is to have your wife mail a hardcopy.

Just make sure that the form will not expire before submitting-- most of the forms have an expiration date which reflects new edits and/updates.

The barcode that some folks mentioned is DS156, I would wait until the interview is schedule before printing AND the date on that form has expired but they will except it because the web master for the embassy controls that particular form and its a data populated form

Good luck!
