Assalam Alaikum and hello everyone!

I couldnt find a topic that related to the questions i have so that's y i am starting new one..

I have filed I 130 for my husband as a spouse visa, i am at a stage where he has to submit DS 230 form with all the required documents.

i have few questions on how to fill out the form DS 230. if someone who can help or advise me in the right area that would be much appreciated

my questions are:

DS 230 part I:

after sec 32 where it ask to list all employment for the last ten years it has a question where it says

"In what occupation do you intend to work in the United States?" - do we have to list a specific occupation or can we say something like

planning to study further in management or can we say managment related occupation. so could someone help me in how to answer this question correctly or give me an example as to what they have filled.

DS 230 part II

questions # 43a and b: when it ask "do you want the social security administration to assign you a SSN and issue a card? (you must answer YES to question 43b to recieve a number and card)" this seems tricky to me, i am thinking the answer should be yes that ofcouse we want to assign SSN

so am i correct? should the answer on both parts be YES

I hope someone can help me in the questions above or any other advise is also helpful.

thanks a lot

I have seen your question about the form question answered this way, unless you have a specific job offer, the best answer is "to be determined."

DS 230 part II

Checking yes on 43a is up to you. If you check yes on 43a, it should save you a trip to a SSA office to apply for the card. If you do check yes on 43a, then as the form says, you must check yes on 43b. Note: If you check yes and yes (43a & 43b) and still do not receive a card, then you will have to go to the SSA office.

I listed "None" on mine since getting a job is out for me (and had no problem).

I clicked the "YES" box and received my SSN card a week after my arrival.

Hope this helps... Good Luck!

If you submit a DS-230 to NVC, then it's not a K-3

If you submit a DS-230 to the Embassy IV unit, then it's a K-3.

Whatcha got ? Where are you sending the DS-230 ?

"To Be Determined" sounds like an appropriate answer regarding employment unless there is already a job arranged. Yes, answer yes to 43a AND 43b. Only by answering yes to both, will the SSA be able to issue a card.

well we are required to submit DS 230 form to NVC as it is stated on the cover sheet so does that mean its not k-3? isnt k-3 visa is another name for

I130 petition for spouse of US citizen? i thought k-3 is for spouse visa...im confuse now..

your answer will be appreciated.

Sounds like you are on the CR1 visa path. K3 is also a spouse visa but unless you followed your I-130 petition with a second petition (I-129F for spouse) there's no K3 visa in your future. Follow the CR1 guides and information, and change your profile to reflect CR1, not K3.

ya, if yer handling the DS-230 for NVC submittal, that's not any K-3 - that's an IR-1/CR-1, depending on the length of marriage.

Unsure of why you think you have a K-3 in play ?

No

While CR-1 and K3 are spousal visas, the similarities end there. CR-1 is an immigrant visa, green card will be issued on arrival in the form of a I-551 stamp, the actual card will arrive in the mail a short time later. K3 is non-immigrant visa requiring adjustment of status in order to obtain a green card.

As pushbrk and Darnell have told you, you are on the path to a CR-1.
