I came to the United States when I was 7 years old with my parents on a B1/2 visa, and what a journey that has been. I have since overstayed, grew up here, and I didn't begin to understand the depth of my situation until I was 18. I am almost 23 now, married to my high school sweetheart, and we're beginning my AOS process in a few days.

If anyone has been through a similar process or has any helpful input, please share your experience/opinions on what you're process was like and any bumps we might hit?

Post has been moved from the Tourist Visa forum to the AOD from Work, Student & Tourist Visa forum as the more appropriate location for this discussion

Welcome to Visa Journey 1Hopeful1 :) . As you can see, we have a whole forum devoted to people who are adjusting their status from either a tourist, student or work visa and who hope to become Permanent Residents through their marriage to a US citizen. I am sure you will find useful information here and hopefully some of our members will be able to offer you the benefit of their own experiences applying for AOS from an overstay or out of status visa. Good luck to you.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Your case is actually fairly straight forward. Overstay is irrelevant/forgiven for immediate relatives of US Citizens, which includes a spouse.

Possible "bumps," as you say, might include the following: You will have to prove you entered legally and get your 15-year old visa and I-94 document. You will have to be honest about any illegal work you did, and it's recommended to file taxes for every year you worked, if you haven't already. You will not be able to use the Advance Parole travel permission, and will have to wait until you get your GC to travel. Good luck!

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!
