I disagree.

Fine. You think that Trump could win the Presidency? Two thirds of Americans say that they would not even consider voting for him. That would be a steep climb, no? Palin isn't looking much better - her negatives are out of this world. She'd have to adopt a brain and do some real work in order to change the - correct - perception that she is a know-nothing. And she's impossible to listen to. Her stupid really burns.

Yes, if he's the Republican nominee. Not if he's Independent or 3rd party. There is an institutional advantage that goes to the nominees of both major parties that is hugely helpful.

So you're saying that the nomination process ensures that unelectable candidates are screened out and therefore the nominee can count on the party faithfuls? That doesn't win you any election, though. You gotta capture the middle - the independents. And Trump - or Palin - cannot pull that off.

The middle is fickle and easily manipulated.

Just have to offer them the most for their vote. The GOP did before by promising tax cuts and the Socialists did by promising free health care and making the rich pay for it. Just been waiting to see which side is going to offer the most this time around. Obama the Socialist can reel a few back by proclaiming he tried but was foiled but most of the Independents will not go for that so waiting to see what he is going to offer. The GOP seems so far to just be trying to say no tax increase at all and lessen the deficit. Plays so so but I think they are gearing up for a pretty nice offer.

The bases of both will always vote the party line so it is the so called Independent that has to be won.

Is it possible Ole Howard dean is saying this to add momentum towards a palin run.....

because he is in truth more worried a more electable candidate might take out Obamer?

Did you read till the end of your OP Danno? The answer to your question is right there. Dean does see another Republican on the horizon that poses a much stronger threat than Palin -- John Huntsman. Huntsman would be formidable in the general. His problem is geting through the primaries where he's already been branded as "Obama's man" since he took the Ambassadorship to China.

Dean thinks former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman, Jr. (R ), who recently finished serving as the Obama administration’s ambassador to China, would be the president’s most dangerous general-election opponent in 2012, a view shared by many Democrats.

“He is an independent. He is a moderate on some social issues and has a strong record as a governor and also has international experience that I think is lacking in every other candidate,” Dean said, comparing Huntsman to the rest of the GOP field.

Dean, however, doubts Huntsman, who has little national name recognition, could win the GOP primary.

I think Obama is very vulnerable. He only got 53% of the vote when people were excited about him, so if things don't get a lot better in the next year, just about anyone will be able to beat him. The campaign against him would be very simple if for example the unemployment rate is still higher than 8%. No matter what the government does to bring down the deficit- raise taxes or cut spending- it will have a negative impact on the economy in the short term so honestly I think its going to take a miracle for him to get reelected.

What's he going to say- "I know you still don't have a job, but hey- how about that health care I got you! Remember I got Bin Laden?!" And healthcare is as much a negative issue for him as it is a positive- if not more so. So really what does he have? Did we sign a new Kyoto treaty? Do we have a million green jobs? Are we out of Afghanistan and Iraq...and Libya? Is Gitmo closed? What? What does Obama have to get reelected on?

That's what is so frightening honestly. If we have a 9% unemployment rate in November of 2012, a Palin/Trump ticket could actually start looking pretty good to a certain amount of voters. And remember, you will have a much more invigorated GOP base than last time. I want Obama replaced for sure, but it would be nice to have a good team in there.

People get real. California elected Arnold Schwarzenegger. Minnesota elected Jesse Ventura. People don't elect politicians because they are the best qualified for the job. The elect them because they are charmed or excited by their personality. Add that to a bad economic situation and just about anything can happen.

Palin, Trump, Arnie or Jesse, no big deal. People often go for larger-than-life personalities in politics,

We have here examples here from Italy, Japan and the Philippines:

Cicciolina

(Youtube of her talents)

Berlusconi

Murakawa

Manny Pacquiao

Such a ticket looks pretty good to a certain amount of voters already. It's the off the deep end crowd. It's a small crowd with no ability to elect a President whatsoever. I say bring Palin/Trump or Trump/Palin or any mix with any of the other unelectable folks - Bachmann, Newt, Santorum. None of these people is ever going to be President. The first two don't even have any intentions to run.

I don't see where that addresses my speculation that this whole report was a tactical maneuver, to increase the likely hood she might run.
