I'm not aware of what degree your wife is pursuing, Steven, but, the problem with degrees these days is that so many of them are becoming obsolete so fast. Going to college to prepare you to work for someone else is not the best investment, imo. I believe in entrepreneurship.

She has a DDM (doctor of dental medicine), and it took her about 8 years to get it. After looking at the options for foreign dentists here in the states, the best option for her is get a second degree as a Dental Hygienist. Even getting her credits to transfer over has been a huge hurdle.

But what really matters is marketable skills and it just so happens that most working professionals acquired those marketable skills through higher education.

Dental hygienists make pretty good money and can set their own hours. Not a bad choice.

Yep...it's been listed consistently in the top 10 job lists for last few years, and she's going to actually get a bachelors degree from a state university, which I think at least looks better on resume compared to most 2 year programs offered.

What's weird is I used to be "Affluent" on the chart above and am now only "Aspiring 35+", yet I feel I have more disposable income. It's amazing what leaving the state of California and its high housing costs, property taxes, and personal income taxes can do for your standard of living.

i'm just perspiring - i'll pass on the affluent until i get depends.
