My fiancee's interview is in a few weeks (June 6).

Back in February after I filed my taxes for 2010 I had a very large refund. Instead of allowing the government to hold such a large amount of my money over the course of the year, I decided to change my taxable filing status from "Single with 1 exemption" to my anticipated filing status for 2011, "Married with 3 exemptions" so I could take home more of my pay check.

My paranoia has set in and I am worried that some paper pusher in the Embassy will pick up on this and reject us without even asking any questions.

Should I include a letter explaining this, and by doing so draw attention to it? Or should I just stop worrying so much?

Any and all thoughts are welcome.

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

No no no, I filed as single for the 2010 tax year. I will be getting married this year, so next year when I file my 2011 taxes I will file as married. My taxes will be much lower so I decided to change my tax with-holdings from my pay check for this year.

My concern comes from my marital status being writen on my pay stubs as "Married".

Look it up on google...I remember reading somewhere you can do anything and have as many exemptions as you want on your W4 but when it comes to actually filing it must be filed correctly with the right number of real dependents and spouse if they are indeed by then...i forgot to change mine to married this past year that was the least of my concern but when i remembered i googled it and somewhere read that....the w4 is only what gives your employer info to take out a certain amount of your check...that's it...but keep digging and maybe somebody who knows more can tell you...

If you are not Married yet... ur paycheck should have a single status...

once u are married u can change that to married... but u cannot do that before...

if they do catch this then it might push ur file back and they can ask for proper paperwork to be filled...
