While I thought that Ron Paul dominated the discussion and was by far the more rational person; that heroin statement was really weak.

He has a point. There's always that crowd that does thing because it's 'sneaky.'

He makes the good point though that just because it's 'legal' doesn't mean everyone is going to rush out and do it. The only exception to that rule I can think of is marijuana... I know a few people that only don't do it because it's illegal, but keep hoping for that day it's legal again.

The thought of legalizing a drug this addictive and this destructive scares me. It doesn't only effect the person doing the drug, a point Ron Paul never addressed. I'm willing to find the happy medium but herion IMO is not that, legalize marijuana.

I dont see heroin as a rebellious/'sneaky' drug considering the stigma attached to it and one that it deserves. I would be all for legalizing marijuana.

Striking federal laws from the books doesn't necessarily make somethign legal, it simply leaves it up to the states to decide. The flip side of that (and the real reason RP is pushing this) is because once the laws are off the books, the federal government is no longer required to enforce those laws.

Yep Yep . He stated he is against the Fed war on drugs. Leave it up to the states.

Sorry but while there is some merit to Ron's initial ideas, as they come into play reality bites them in the butt. Ending the war on drugs is not a bad idea, but as with alcohol, at some point lines need to be drawn. Alcohol is legal to purchase and consume based on age requirements, but of course it is illegal to drink and drive. Why? See my example to which you gave a non-response...

You cannot drink and drive on public roads and streets. There is a difference.

That "age" is regulated by the states, not the Federal Government. The Federal Government somewhat knowing their constitutional limitations does not have an actual age, but instead 'suggests' by threat of withholding funds that states make their age 21. Though may question the constitutionality of that action in regards to tax laws.
