Completing the I-130 and other documents

Hi everyone,

We have started the paperwork for my wife to petition for me for the CR-1. We have lot of evidence of a bonafide relationship, financial records and photos with my wife's family, but we do not have the following:

No skype records (we used to text and talk on the phone only)

No affidavits of support from my wife's family (working on these at the moment....) I did not bring any affidavits from my friends/acquintances back in Australia either.

I have to get back to my projects in OZ pretty soon and would like to file ASAP without the affidavits.

The question is: Are these important? Do I have to have them?

No, you don't have to have either. I filed mine with an affadavit from my father (I'm the petitioner), and from friends of ours Stateside, but none from his side of the family nor our Canadian friends. Photos, passport stamps, boarding passes too. No emails or chat logs (we don't skype). We got through fine.

I agree. None of that stuff is actually required at this stage, although it is optional and could help. What you already have seems fine. Financial records (joint bank account statements, tax returns, etc.), shared leases, anything showing the co-mingling of your lives is stronger than third-party affidavits.

In my honest opinion Affidavits are truly worthless unless they are truly Bonafide. What I mean is that the person that is going to sign the affadavit knows of the entire relations BEFORE, DURING (MARRIAGE) and AFTER.

I am not planning on doing them and I had a semi-arranged Marriage so I'm really a newlywed. If I received an RFE...I will do them then. I have yet to see and RFE that requests them on VJ.

This is something that would be good to have for NVC or Intreview stage at Consulate/Embassy IF you want to have them.

It's a big OR, plenty of people have done just fine without any affadavits.

Just have the big things, e-mail's, chats, phone records, pictures and make sure the beneficiary has all the info correct during interview.

All I sent for my I-130 was all the general stuff (G-325a, I-130 etc.) and marriage cert. and about 10 pictures of before marriage, actual marriage and after marriage.

I'm 1.5 months into USCIS.

What you have right now is perfectly fine to to file I-130. Drop it off to the post office and hope for a quick approval!

The statements are not required. However, I have seen some posts on VJ from people who received RFE's asking for statements while others did not include statments and they were fine. It may depend if the adjudicator feels statements are necessary to make a decsion or not.

If you are going to include statements, they should come from people who have interacted with you both as a couple in any way, shape, or form.
