Question about moving within the states.

Hey all!

Just have a quick question:

In regards to moving, I know before there was some rule about moving:

where you had to reside at the address that your sponsor used for at least one or two years, something along those lines.

Does that apply to the CR1 visa?

Or are we free to move where ever, when ever?

Never heard of any rule that says you cant move.

We moved soon after we married and applied for AOS from K-1.

Military familys move all the time and most of them are married to green card holders.

You sure your not mixing up the traveling and staying inside the US requirements?

You don't need to live with the sponsor.

You (the immigrant/LPR) do need to tell USCIS when and where you have moved and the sponsor has to tell USCIS when and where they have moved as well until the I-864 is no longer valid.

My husband is the sponsor, think he'd be mad if I didn't live with him =P

When he called before any of this started, whoever he talked to told him that we weren't allowed to move from the address for like two years or something, but neither of us can remember exactly what was said, or what visa/process that was.

I can see that!

In any event, you can live wherever you wish. You just have to tell USCIS when you move as does your husband because he is your sponsor. It can even be at the same address.

Maybe they were trying to stress keeping the address up-to-date, especially for the next two years before removal of conditions?? Who knows? There is no regulation that I know of that says you have to stay at the same place for any amount of time...

yeah tons of people move state to state soon after moving here so I dont think that can be right. Maybe they just meant you need to inform them immediately until after you remove your conditions... I dont know lol

You can live wherever you would like. Just be sure to file your AR-11 and sponsor's I-865. We moved a month after POE.

The only reason you can't move within the US is if you are living in a big house where your food comes through a slot in the cage or where you are required to wear a white vest all day long.

That's just crazy.

My husband not only moved from his address when he first sponsored me, he moved States too. And then within six weeks of my arrival, we moved to another city. Nobody came and got me and gave me heck, or kicked me out of the country, or told me to get down and give them 50 pushups or whatever mythical penalty is associated with moving. lol
