Pornography found in bin Laden hideout

Kathryn,

Every thread on VJ should be safe to view from work. Regardless of title.

Or are you suggesting I can open a porn thread now? There are many fans of MILF porn here and we could really use a thread of our own. Your thoughts?

Ideally, yes, every post should be safe to view from work. Nevertheless, the inclusion of the word pornography in an item title being viewed on line - other than in an actual news media source - is a potential pitfall for work-based viewing. The Dude is familiar enough with this site to know that sometimes certain things that are obscene or pornographic get through and are viewed before a moderator can remove them. Interestingly enough, the image that was removed was not pornographic, but it was irrelevant to the thread and appears posted mainly for its shock value - in other words, to 'bait'.

The Dude may have more to explain to work about why he is viewing a thread entitled "Pornography found in Bin Laden's hideout" than why an image of one of the victims from Andersonville - one of the truly tragic chapters in American history - signaled the office filters. The image was neither tasteless or obscene when viewed in context (although the Andersonville situation itself may indeed be said to be obscene) but I will agree that in this context the image was tasteless. I found it interesting that his office filters identified the historic photograph and not the thread title.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

:(

No baiting intended. I must admit The Dude needs to relax a bit with some of his comments' magnitude, no matter how I may agree with this philosophy, but there was no egging on anyone in having a laugh at his expense due to the Moderation pointing out something that would be common sense before clicking a thread title.

:(

I am sad now.

Well in fairness - the word "pornography" doesn't indicate much. If a person was looking at porn at work - it's not likely to be described as "pornography". Porn titles are... shall we say... rather more colourful.

Edit to add - clicking that link is probably NSFW (although there is nothing obscene on it. Besides words).

ok - non-baiting post has been returned. You can put your happy face back on. :P

Hopefully he'll be back to elaborate. Usually though he's a "one post and he's gone" type of poster.
The picture was that of a Union survivor of Andersonville POW camp. And, as I stated, all of the references (Andersonville was a horrid POW camp run by Confederacy, poison-gas WAS used in field in WW-2, and "Brickworks Massacre" is well-documented as having occurred in Dhaka 1971/12/14). The porn in b-l's hideout was only planted so much as the other incidents were forged (in other words, b-l WAS viewing it--along with some colleagues and supporters in that country).

 and you missed a crucial tie, the fact that the country that committed the grotesque war-crime of Brickworks Massacre (and for which it got all the perps back home--possibly with some help from US, which was rumoured to have withheld grain-supplies to Bangladesh in 1974 to prevent that nation from indicting/trying the perps) was the one hiding/protecting b-L and his archcriminal colleagues and shenanigans.

What the hell are you talking about?

The more I read from you, the more I get the impression that you like to segue from the topic to some bizarre half arsed history lesson that has little to with the topic or what has been said in it.

You may well know your history, but your ability to communicate it in context of the topic is woeful.

anyone answer this yet? i'm at work & i can't google it.

Apparently Google has stated that about 2.7 TERABYTES of total data were recovered from the compound. How much of that was smut I am sure would vary.
