I the USC just renewed my lease and had my husband added to the lease. He is not in the US currently and I told my landlord this and that he was moving in this autumn. My question is should I attempt to forge his signature (with his permission obviously) on the lease or just sign it myself. I am thinking the lease will be helpful further on for evidence of co-mingled finances- does it matter if he doesn't sign it? I don't want to get him into trouble later on down the line with interviews etc. I suppose I could have mailed the lease to him and he could have sent it back to me...

Any thoughts are appreciated!

Thanks!

Never forge a signature, spouse or otherwise.

Even if you have permission.

Bingo. IF you send this as proof as to your bonafide relationship I guarantee a flag will be thrown up if they compare signatures. Timeline won't match up either if they question him before hand and how he was able to leave the country and sign the lease when he has no immigration stamps on his visa.

These guys look at every detail. Think twice before you do something of this nature.

Now, if you want to mail the lease to him and have him sign and send it back, that's a different story.

I wouldn't forge, can you overnight the lease to your spouse, have him sign and sent it back?

If you do submit a forged signature, the signature nor the timeline will match, that means bad news

Make any futher dealings with USCIS easy to approve, forging signatures won't make an easy case to approve

Good luck

I will just sign my own name and leave it at that then. My husband's name is typed on the lease that will have to be good enough. I wasn't using it as evidence of a bonafide relationship anyway since I already sent my I-130.

Thank you for confirming my suspicions that forgery is bad!

I'm not giving advice here; it's just a funny story this made me think of~~

I have a friend whose been married around 35 years. She's been a housewife most of that time and takes care of all the bills, taxes, family paperwork, etc. She told me once "I've been signing Joe's name for so long that if he ever actually signed something himself they would think it was forgery." :)

It's possible to have used it as more proof for bonafide relationship at visa interview.

When I was in Scotland my husband and I had a dropbox file where each of us could upload documents that we both needed access to.

With our lease, he sent me the blank back page, I printed it, signed it, scanned it so he could see it and sign it himself to show the landlady.I then mailed it back to him and he signed it. This meant the landlady didn't have to wait around for my signiture and we had a copy with both of our actual signatures on it,rather than one being a copy.

Definitely don't forge it...it's probably fine in other circumstances...but when dealing with USCIS I wouldn't take that chance.

Good luck

You cannot sign for your husband and if he took this to the interview as the evidence, it would create more problem. CO would be asking him how did he sign the lease while he was not in US.

I think you are rushing in too fast to show co-mingled finance, wait until he comes to US and then you can start adding him to your account or lease as needed.
