Ray-J, You are correct that it will have no impact on USCIS or NVC, but there are local interruptions all the time that impact the consulates. It can be almost anything--severe weather, political uprisings, and so forth, but experience has shown us that interruptions and delays have been very short lived, and then the local consulates seem to work doubly hard to catch up.

Life is full of surprises--may they all be positive.

No doubt the original poster's question was asked because he (or his wife) hails from Pakistan.

There haven't been many details about how much cooperation versus unilateral action was involved in the raid. Some people say Pakistan helped in the raid, other people say they didn't even know it was happening, yet other people say Pakistan was actively protecting Osama, and even Pakistani government representatives have varied widely in their claims of US cooperation. Regardless, there hasn't been any visible intergovernmental tension between the US and Pakistan, so there isn't likely to be any "official" interruption in visa processing.

Presumably the Taliban feels that the government was complicit in the raid, because they've labelled Pakistan their new primary target. That could mean domestic trouble, but even if they pull anything off I wouldn't expect a major change in visa processing.

It's a good question! But I think everything will be fine.

This Warden Notice is to inform American Citizens in Pakistan that the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad and the U.S. Consulate General in Karachi are open for business as of Tuesday, May 3, 2011. Please note that the U.S. Consulates General in Lahore and Peshawar remain closed to the general public for routine business except for emergency American Citizen Services.

The Embassy reiterates its advice to all U.S. citizens to take measures for their safety and security at all times. These measures include maintaining good situational awareness, avoiding crowds and demonstrations, and keeping a low profile. U.S. citizens should avoid setting patterns by varying times and routes for all required travel. U.S. citizens should ensure that their travel documents and visas are valid at all times. In addition, over the next several days and weeks, we advise U.S. citizens to avoid areas where foreigners are known to congregate.
