Hi everybody!!!

I've just received my greencard in the mail (based on marriage after a K1 visa process). I know this is a conditional greencard for 2 years. Now, my husband is a little paranoid about what can I do and what I can't do...

I'm planning to visit in 2 months my family in Spain for 1 month since after that with job and college etc I won't be able to visit them for long time anymore.

My husband wants me to triple check if it's a 100% safe to travel with my conditional greencard and if leaving for a month would affect my future application for a citizenship or else.

Thank you everybody and God bless

There's no difference between a conditional GC and a 10 year one, other than you have to remove your conditions just prior to the 2 years.

You can be out of the country for up to a year, and I guess up to 2 years with a re-entry permit, but that may raise questions on the marriage.

One month out of the country is completely OK. Look for M-618 at uscis.gov on page 10, under "keep your immigration status"

You will have no problem. My wife traveled in March to visit her family in the Philippines with her 2 yr conditional green card with no problems(She has been there for 6 weeks). She will be returning home in a few days and I expect no problems for that either.

It might raise a red flag that you knowingly married a paranoid man.

Just kidding. It's a good sign that he's concerned about you.

:bonk:

As long as you are returning before 6 months are up, all you'll hear at at airport when returning is "welcome home."

Hey . . . I could use a couple of weeks in Marbella or on Ibiza!

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.
