I back-up Rumsfeld! Most of us in the Military know his job is not easy. It is very easy for people that know nothing about the military to critic the job done.

And we are supposed to win a war without killing people. This is impossible just go back and study history.

Semper Fi,

Peter

U.S.M.C.

According to the article - there's a fair number of military personnel who are supporting the calls for him to go.

A fair amount does not mean a lot or most. Of course there are always people on both sides of the fence. But most military people I know and I know a lot, back-up Mr. Rumsfeld.

Semper Fi,

Peter

U.S.M.C.

Does that mean that their opinions are somehow invalid?

Since when did we stop holding public officials to account for their mistakes?

Hmmm, I can respect your view but I think you are little confused about the facts on this, no one is saying he has an easy job, but if you are going to state something in a position as his you better be damn well ready to back it up and stand by those words!

In both videos I presented he denies making claims, claims he is on record making, such as (and I quote again):

"We know where they [iraq's WMD] are. They're in the area around Tikrit and Baghdad and east, west, south, and north somewhat." -- March 30, 2003

In the first video I quoted he denied that we "knew" where the WMDs were and was called on that denial with his OWN words (quoted above)!

The second video he says there is no one in the administration that believe Iraq posed an "imminent" threat and seconds later he is faced once again with his own words that IMPLY that HE believed Iraq to be an ALMOST imminent threat.

How can anyone have confidence in someone of this caliber?

actually, yes. active duty members voicing their opinion about a member of their chain of command can land them in hot water.

True - but isn't one of the conditions of taking on a role in front line politics that you have to take accountability for your decisions (and yes - your mistakes too). If the guy isn't prepared to do that (and clearly he has made some mistakes) then perhaps he shouldn't have taken the job?

Yes, but in any organization, when those mistakes occur and are not rectified in an appropriate amount of time, the responsible person must be held accountable.

Fact: We're not any closer to stabilizing Iraq than we were one year ago.

Isn't that enough reason to say he failed? It would be in most other organizations.

ps. I don't give a sh!t about Abu Ghraib.

Somehow being in the military makes a person a know-it-all and makes their opinion more valid.

when it comes to military matters, who do you think has a more valid point of view? those who have been there, or those who never were?

For those of you that know so much about wars, strategy’s, tactics, etc. Wars are not won in a year or two years, you can not put a timeline on wars because nothing is constant and especially in this new type of wars where your enemy does not wear a uniform and does not stand in front of you and fights.
