Hi everyone,

My fiance is in the US air force and is expecting to be deployed around July 2011 for 6 months. He doesn't have orders for deployment yet and based on what he is hearing it is unlikely he will receive the actual orders until about a week before he departs. We are considering requesting an expedite so we could have the option of marrying before he deploys (we filed for the K1 in February). It seems very unlikely we will have time to do this if we have to wait for him to receive orders.

Does anyone have any experience with requesting an expedite prior to receiving orders?

Thanks

Hi,

We did the same for AOS.. It's understandable to not have the orders, so instead have his CO write a letter explaining his pending deployment and that he is requesting an expedite in behalf of your husband. We wrote that orders would not be available until a week before deployment which would be too late. I'm not actually sure if it worked though since they did not acknowledge it but we did get our notice and biometrics appointment right away so it might have? Anyway it can't hurt to try and Goodluck! :) We made it our cover letter and wrote "Request for Expedite due to Deployment" on top. His CO used official paper too.

My Journey:

We met through a study-abroad program in Shanghai, China in August of 2009

We got engaged March of 2010

I received my K1 VISA in 6 months (June-December 2010)

We were married 04/02/2011
I received my conditional 2-year greencard (AOS) in 2.5 months with no interview (April-June 2011)

Our son was born 02/03/2013

I received my masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology 04/17/2013

I received my 10-year greencard (ROC) in 3 months with no interview (March-June 2013)

My husband returned from deployment 06/20/2013

My naturalization journey took 4 months (April-August 2014)

I became a US citizen on 08/01/2014

Received passport in 3 weeks (regular processing)

Thank you, VJ! smile.png

Hi! We recently got our approval for expeditious processing for I-129F. My fiance first called military helpline to inquire about it, and a few days after, he was sent an email from USCIS. The message contained the criteria for expedited requests, and deployment is one. The message also gave instructions of what he may send to supplement his request. We just sent a letter citing our reasons for the request, without a deployment order or letter from the commanding officer. He faxed the letter together with a copy of the USCIS message, and prayed that it will be accepted. it can't hurt to try.

good luck!

Hey! We got our expedite approval just literally 2 seconds ago, I'd written a reply saying what we had done and that we were waiting for a response, and then my fiance walked in on skype with the approval in his hand, so happy!!!

My fiance is also in the Air Force and has a deployment window of June - September 2011, his is only a window not orders. We sent a detailed signed letter from his commander and a detailed signed from my fiance explaining the situation. We sent it Friday 8th April and he got the letter today. Ring the military help line, they will contact the USCIS who will then contact you with the expedite requirements. Orders is a for sure for expedite, but they obviosuly read the letters carefully and approved us.

thanks everyone for your help. We had previously contacted the military helpline but they weren't very helpful and just told us he needed to have orders. It seems like there is some hope though so my fiance is going to talk to people at work and see if we can get a letter from his commander.

oh and congrats xxxwabbiexxx i hope you guys get to marry before your fiance deploys :)

I know the people are the phone aren't very helpful they just read from a card they don't actually listen to you and your situation. We rang the helpline and they did contact the USCIS and I think within 5 days we got an e-mail from the USCIS telling us what to do. We explained to the military helpline that it wasnt orders and they still did it for us, so either try again because you may speak to someone else or ring the USCIS directly because it is only a military helpline, they contact the USCIS on your behalf so there's no harm in you cutting out the middle man. Keep us updated on how it goes.

hi everyone,

I have a lil question regarding the USCIS military helpline.

My husband lives in the US while I am in Malaysia. I have a tourist visa, which is valid for at least another 5 years. We haven't filed for I-130 yet, just recently got married.

Recently, my husband called the USCIS military helpline. The lady he talked to told him I could fly to the US on a one way ticket, told the IO if they ask, that I'm filing for adjustment of status in the US and stay, hence the one way ticket. She also said it's ok, and we can do it.

From what I understand, it means I can visit but not stay. My question would be would flying there on a one-way ticket be ok? I'm not sure if this is a good idea. I don't want to fly all the way there only to be told to go back to Malaysia, or worse, get banned from entering the US.
