I sent my husband's RFE packet out on August 31st, by delivery confirmation, and today the website *finally* updated (I guess the website people were on holiday from Sept 1 - 5):

Status: Refused

Your item was refused by the addressee at 9:30 am on September 05, 2006 in LEES SUMMIT, MO 64064 and is being returned to the sender. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later.

#######? Anyone know why our package (about 15 sheets in a 9x13 envelope) would be returned to sender?

Because the electronic update the postal carrier submits is not always accurate. I think the selection for refused must be right next to the delivery accepted selection. I got the same electronic update when I sent a package to our attorney once. I immediately called the attorney and found that the package had been delivered and all was well. I submitted a complaint to USPS and was offered a 50 cent refund--big whoop.

You'll either get the package back or you will get confirmation from USCIS that the RFE was received. Either way, the delivery confirmation from USPS isn't worth a penny.

I imagine it is just as possible for delivery to be refused and the electronic update to show delivery.

We got the same message. Our package was sent out Aug 24 and the message said that on Aug 28 it was refused and was being reurned to sender. I am still waiting and nothing has been returned. I wanted to see what reason would be listed on the package. Now it has been more than a week and I am wondering if it was really refused or what I will visit the post office this Friday and inquire, and send another duplicate package....by Fedex this time!

Thanks, guys.

My husband and I have been racking our brains all day trying to figure out what, exactly, we did wrong. Was the envelope too big? Were we not supposed to use delivery confirmation for that package since it goes to a PO Box? Etc.

Then, I checked the USCIS site. Now, admittedly, it's as inaccurate as the USPS site seems to be, and touches mean nothing, *and* we've gotten no confirmation our package was received, but today both the AOS and EAD got touched.

So, long story short, who the hell knows!

My plan right now is to resend the RFE packages on Saturday (giving it 5 days from refusal to return to us or to get a notice from USCIS) with a letter explaining what happend.

Hi M.

yup, wait a little while. When i sent my RFE reply as well, the USPS reroute our documents, so i called them by phone and asked them why its been reroute in different zip code. I found this out by checking the USPS onlien tracking, whenever i do send package i always checked it online, when i didnt get an answer by phone, i did try sending them an email stating the wrong they've done.

But eventually someone emailed me back and do something, then it came to the Lee summit with the person from USCIS who accepted it. And got reply from both USPS for finally package arrived and USCIS for they received the package.

Have patience. Goodluck!

USPS is worse than the USCIS, I'm beginning to think.

Today, I received the returned pkg.

Now, take into consideration some facts before I get to today. Last Thursday, my husband went to the local post office and personally posted the envelope over the counter. It was measured and weighed by the PO worker and he was charged $1.71 plus sixty cents for the Delivery Confirmation. He specifically said first class mail, and had everything done to send it that way. (We kept our receipts, so we know it was sent 1st class and was weighed.)

So, a week later, the package comes back RTS as refused. And what was the reason for the refusal?

Insufficient postage.

How the hell can the Post Office charge us an amount and then turn around and say it charged us the wrong amount and return our package? Am I stupid or does this make no sense?

You are lucky. I still haven't got our package back yet and it was refused on Aug 28th. I think my problem is exactly the same as yours as I sent it first class with delivery confirmation for the same price. Tomorrow it's off the the post office to pitch a fit!

I sent a reply for my RFE to Lee Summit as well, and the USPS enroute it to a different ZIP CODE, though its very clearly i wrote in bold permanent marker the receipient address.

And it costs me $18.80 for an overnite express mail or next day noon delivery :no: , but it arrived 3-4 days bcos of that mistakingly enroute of packages. tsk tsk tsk..... government!!!

Like right now, many people applied for EAD but got their AOS approval without hearing anything for EAD though you pay for $180 bucks for it

I saw some of you used express mail or FedEx -- was that for an RFE and if so, what address did you use? I thought only USPS can deliver to a PO Box?
