I-134: Supporting Evidence

Dear friends who already had their interview/or are getting ready:

My fiancé's Interview in Ciudad Juarez in coming up!

I have some questions regarding the 'Supporting Evidence' for the I-134.

The reason I'm asking is because people seem to generally recommend to submit more info. than requested.

The problem is, after reading many forums here on Visa Journey, I can see that different consulates operate differently, and not everyone seems to agree on how much evidence is enough/too little!

So, here are the questions:

1. Did you get your I-134 notarized?

2. Did you submit tax transcripts or tax returns? Is one preferred over the other?

3. How many years of tax info. did you submit?

4. How many pay-stubs did you submit?

5. Did you submit W2's/1099's, and if so how many?

6. Was the letter from your employer an original or a copy?

1 - The I-134 does not need to be notarized. In the past this was required. So you may see some reference to that.

2 - Transcripts are preferred by USCIS and the Consulates. Also if you submit transcripts then there is no need to send in copies of W2/1099/etc. If you do send tax return copies then you must include all supporting schedules and documentation (w2, 1099, etc)

3 - Varies by consulate. Most recent is required Most important is showing current and ongoing income. Old tax returns don't show current income.

4 - Most recent paystubs from 4 - 8 weeks ought to be sufficient

5 - If submitted be sure to include all other parts of the tax return(s)

6 - Bring both copies and originals to the interview. Typically they will keep a copy and perhaps inspect the original.

In addition, it may be beneficial to email your specific consulate and ask for their specific requirements as it does vary from consulate to consulate in different countries. That way, you get your information from them.

Mexico is really liberal with the financial evidence requirements. Many different things can work as long as it gives a general overview of meeting the income requirements. Things will be stricter at your AOS from what I hear. Remember also that you are only required to meet the 100% poverty level and not the 125% as required for the AOS.

Thank you for your response! It appears that it take 2 weeks to receive tax return transcripts, so I think due to impatience we are just going to submit return copies. I really hope it won't cause issues.

Also- Am I understanding correctly that we need 2 original statements from my employer and bank (I know that bank is optional for some) or is just 1 original with a copy?

A: 2010 Tax Return. You want to send most recent tax return and a couple recent pay stubs and letter of employment from employer

3. How many years of tax info. did you submit?

A: Just most recent is needed

4. How many pay-stubs did you submit?

A: like 4 or 5 recent ones

5. Did you submit W2's/1099's, and if so how many?

A: Yes, I included my 1099. If you have more then one include all

6. Was the letter from your employer an original or a copy?

A: Yes

You don't need to get the I-134 notarized. It is not required.

I submitted transcripts (just for the current year), as it was easier than making copies of each and every form + W2's and 1099's. With transcripts, you only need to send the transcript and nothing else. You can get your transcripts mailed or faxed to you. You can also walk into your local IRS office and have them print out your transcripts for you right then and there.

If you are sending a copy of your 1040 instead, be sure and include all pages, schedules, forms and all W2's and 1099's you received for the tax year.
