No NOA1 arrived... SOLVED!

Thought I'd share this for completeness, and as when I was worrying about this last month, I didn't spot much in the forums about this.

For some reason, after I filed my I-751 I never received the NOA1 receipt. I had seen the check had been cashed, so I knew they had done something with my packet.

Luckily, the Biometrics appointment did eventually appear, so I knew that things were progressing normally. I phoned up the USCIS help line to ask about the receipt and eventually was told I could only inquire about it after 30 days. So, I waited, phoned again, and eventually was told that they had sent the NOA1, and they don't re-send copies, but I could make an Infopass appointment to get a stamp in my passport.

So, earlier this week, I visited my local USCIS office and they were very helpful - they took away my now-expired green card and gave me a temporary I-551 stamp in my passport, extending my residency for a year (and it explicitly says employment authorized).

So, in conclusion: if you're missing your NOA1, don't panic :)

Thanks for the update. Yes, I had the same thing happen when I filed for ROC. I never received an NOA1 so I too got the I-551 stamp placed in my passport extending my green card status for a year.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Thanks for posting this. I am in the same situation. Almost a month and NOA1. My husband called the USCIS and they said that they never sent the NOA1 to us. :bonk: They are now resending. If we do not get the NOA1 one soon then I will make an info pass appointment. Never thought to do that so thanks for your post!

  • 2 years later...

I know this is an old post but I'm worried that I have the same problem. Check cashed but still no noa1 or biometrics. How can I call to inquire about my case if I don't know my receipt number?

My Journey:

We met through a study-abroad program in Shanghai, China in August of 2009

We got engaged March of 2010

I received my K1 VISA in 6 months (June-December 2010)

We were married 04/02/2011
I received my conditional 2-year greencard (AOS) in 2.5 months with no interview (April-June 2011)

Our son was born 02/03/2013

I received my masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology 04/17/2013

I received my 10-year greencard (ROC) in 3 months with no interview (March-June 2013)

My husband returned from deployment 06/20/2013

My naturalization journey took 4 months (April-August 2014)

I became a US citizen on 08/01/2014

Received passport in 3 weeks (regular processing)

Thank you, VJ! smile.png

You use the case number off of the biometrics appointment letter to get case updates from USCIS.

Good luck to all of you guys still missing NOA1's! Hope they come soon :)
