Child Support Question for N400 Interview

I am at that stage now gathering things for the upcoming interview.

On my application I stated that I have 2 children living in Australia.

The are now 21 and 23.

I was paying child support for them up until they reached 18, which is the legal age in Australia to cease payments.

All is well on that front.

My question is, will the IO ask for proof that I paid child support even though they are now 21 & 23?

I did request a letter form the Child Support Agency in Australia which they kindly sent me stating the date my Child Support ceased and that I don't owe any back child support etc. The letter is on their letterhead and has the Director of the Child Support Agency's name at the bottom, but it isn't signed, do you think this is an issue? Do all letters have to be signed to be 'official'

thanks

I took proof with me but they never asked to see it. The proof that I have is a monthly statement from the state in which I pay. It has no signature. I would also think that taking along birth certificates showing that they are adult children would be an add on to the letter that you already have. And no some letters are not signed but are still official.

No longer in the hands of the USCIS, for my wife at least, next up MIL.

Thanks for your reply. I have their birth certificates that I will take, thanks.

How old were your children at the time of your naturalization interview?

I was totally unaware they would even ask about the children listed on the N400 who aren't pertinent to my application. I have a 19 yr old daughter who is going to do her own citizenship app in 2 yrs and 2 US citizen stepsons. I don't plan to bring any information about them.

I cannot imagine a circumstance where the IO would care about support arrangements for children who are now adults? perhaps I'm being naive and someone has had an experience otherwise.

Part 10, section D, question 22 g, hits on this issue. Good way to get out of child support payments is to get full physical custody of your kids, also assures they will get proper care. Alimony is a different story, can only hope and pray some other sucker will marry her, but got mine and her attorney to agree to a one time payoff so that could be laid to rest in the history file.

Sure met a lot of women that wanted to play while beating their ex's to death with alimony payments, didn't want anything to do with those, know what those poor guys are going through.

Can only show the evidence you receive, but better than nothing. But if you honestly answered that question, would reply with a no, so probably would never be brought up.

Ahh - good points. I personally don't have an issue then as I am not responsible for child support payments to anyone.

Neither am I now, but I was when I came to the US and married (fiancé visa). Mine stopped in 2008, and because it is within the 5 year window I wondered if they would ask for proof I hadn't defaulted on my payments.
