Letter of Intent to Marry

Hello Fellow VJers!

I am about to send the application to petition my fiance who lives in the Dominican Republic. I was wondering if it was ok to send just one letter of Intent to Marry with both of our signatures on it or if we should each write a separate letter. Also, I wanted to know if it is okay that the letter will be in English since it needs to be for USCIS even though my fiance does not know English.

Thanks!

Each of you submits a letter of intent. They both can be in English.

The K1 Guide here suggests this

Original statements (from both the US Citizen and foreign fiance) certifying an intent to marry within 90 days of entering the US on a valid K-1.

If the problem is that both parties don't speak "English", then one document signed by both may suffice. Things vary case by case, and its really up to the USCIS Agent who is reviewing your case to determine if the evidence you send is sufficient enough or not. Keep in mind you don't want to risk getting a RFE and delaying your case for any amount of time.

My suggestion would be for you to have your fiance use Google translate or some of kind of service to translate his Intent letter into English (they can just attach the Spanish copy with it). Or go with your 1st thought and attach a note to the Intent letter explaining a language barrier. For future reference, think about getting a translator so he can complete future documents that will be needed for your case.

Hope this helps!

Yes you can send in 1 letter signed by both if her English is not good. Actually we only ever sent one letter in and had no problem, just our experience is all. But in your case 1 letter is fine signed by both.
