WHat is a visa journey app?

An app for a smartphone that is optimized for the reduced screen real estate. I'm actually on an htc now and vj already has a mobile version of the site. Not sure why a dedicated app is needed.

When I had the iPhone what I didn't like is I would have to manually select the IP.Board Mobile option (on bottom of page). It would start off way too small and I'd have to scroll down and change it.

Not really a big deal but the problem is the next time I went to my computer it would remember to be in IP.Board Mobile mode. So then I would have to change it back. Then when I checked my phone I'd have to change it back again.

It got annoying if I was back and forth between my phone and computer. But for some reason on my Android it automatically is at a good screen size when I go to VJ.com. Don't have to change anything.

What version of android and which browser? Vj should switch to the mobile version depending on the user agent/browser. If it does not in your case simply scroll to the bottom of the page and

Select ip.mobile

It's something the Yanks get all excited about.

Same here. An optimized version would be nice as suggested above.

Well have no idea what you just said but I reckon that means something to somebody lol. I guess as long as it is not something I need for a immigration visa, I just won't worry about it.

Dukes of Hazard reruns are much more entertaining.

Hmm, whadda ya know. When I switch to my laptop, the mobile version persists (I used my HTC previously). So, while VJ already has a suitable mobile version, there are some bugs in how it detects which version to display to the user. As you mentioned though, you can manually switch between them.

There's an app already by Invision (the ppl who do the software), but VJ may not be in the directory. You won't have a bunch of the links (wiki, guides, etc) at the top of the page -- it'll be basic layout, but you'll have a sleek interface for posting to the forums.

@Ewok: the app uses the default mobile skin, so if you want to add those things to it, you'll have to edit the mobile skin :)

Am not aware of any plans to develop a 'VJ App' but there are a number of apps out there specifically for forums such as VJ. I've tried a couple of them but prefer to use the default Android browser which lets me do pretty much most things.

For Android:

  • Droid Forums
  • Cherokee Forums (worked 'OK')
  • TapaTalk (this one I've tried - didn't prefer it)

and a number of others - they're mostly free (or have free versions) so it's worth a try.
