Hi All,

I just pass my citizenship test a week ago. I am still waiting for my oath Ceremony letter to take oath. Last night I receieved a word from my family from oversea that my 75 years old dad is in Critical condition and expect to be in hospital more than a couple of weeks. I'd love to go back to see him.

What should I do? Do I need to contact the USCIS? Please anyone have any suggestion?

I hope to go there soon, and I hope there is a way around to do this!

Thanks all,

Chris

You have a valid green card so you will use that to re-enter the US.

Good luck to your dad.

Yes, I do have an valid Green Card and international Passport! However I also hope that USCIS would able to allow me to take oath earlier, and I can apply for a 1 days turn around passport before I leave. Do you also know how long it usually take to get the oath Ceremony letter?

Best thing would be to make an InfoPass appt. or try a walk in at the local USCIS office.

Yes you can travel there without any problems after the interview. After the interview I suggest telling the Immigration Officer that you want to have a interview date ASAP or say after a certain time. They may schedule you and may require evidence to support your rescheduling request. Some offices performs same-day oath ceremonies.

All the best to you.

I am asking my sister to ask for the doctor's notes that stat my dad condition. Do you think that might help talking to the immigration? I am hoping that USCIS will see this matter is an urgent. I am hoping that I am able to go see my dad very soon.

Hey Chris from my view an Infopass maybe worthless. IF your interview is scheduled they wont schedule one any sooner, if you have an appointment then taking it to the interview maybe the best choice. if you want your scheduled interview to be changed (if you have one) then having the medical proof would be beneficial to getting this done. You would mail the appointment notice along with your request/reason back to the address where it was sent from.

Thank you so much for taking your precious time to research for me. Very highly appreciate. Well, I've already pass my interview last week. I just wait for my oath Ceremony letter to get here, but I can't wait that long cause of my dad. My sister will email me the letter tonight from a doctor office. I plan to bring to the local office and hope to ask them to do the ceremony this week. Please keep me in your thought and pray.

Thanks again,

Chris

Good luck...and remember if you do get to do the oath before you leave, you have to apply for your US passport at a passport agency (they will take your green card away at the oath ceremony). You need to show them your travel arrangements (within 2 weeks) and you need to make an appointment to go in.

You CAN travel. All you have to do... When u get your Oath Letter, one of the questions asked is if you have travelled since your interview. This you will answer YES. At your Oath Ceremony just bring your passport & green card of course. You WILL be fine.

The Infopass appointment is as worthless as the doctor's note. You are free to travel, and in case somebody is checking your mail at home they can inform you if you got the Oath letter in the mail. When and if that happens is totally field office dependent, and you just have to wait and see.

Most likely you have 3 to 4 weeks after receiving the Oath letter until the actual Oath takes place. If you are still not back by then, you can ask for a later Oath appointment. Even if you miss the Oath, you can reschedule a new appointment. You have all the nerve-wrecking stuff behind you, so don't worry about it too much.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

Thanks you all for your response and feedback. Good News after all. We just found out that our dad is doing a lot better now. We don't have to rush out there. We'll wait for our letter to arrive and to be sworn to become a citizenship. What a relief. whooow....... yeah...Again, thanks.
