hello everyone!

i'll be flying alone to the US, POE is Honolulu, then Honolulu to Phoenix. Im not sure if my phone (Globe) would work once I'm outside the country so Im really nervous how I would be able to contact my baby who would be picking me up in Phoenix. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you! :)

Dont panic --once you reach the airport and cleared customs --you can use the coin paid phones at the terminal or just simply ask a USC passenger for a call on his/her cell phone to your honey . I dont think your cell phone from the Pi would work here . Good luck .

There is usually a receiving area for international passengers (even equipped with theatre chairs for people to watch for travelers!) at many airports. I have always been able to find international guests in the receiving area. You can wait and watch them all come out of customs. The passengers all come out of one door and you will see people waiting for you. I usually make a back-up plan to meet at baggage claim if it doesn't work out, and if that doesn't work out, pay phone. (I have never had to use my back-up plan, btw).

AOS for my husband

if you are using globe postpaid, roaming is already activated. But better to call them and make sure at least 7 days before your departure. If you're using prepaid, here are the steps:

How do I activate my Prepaid International Roaming?

  1. Just send GROAM ON mm/dd/yyyy to request for open roaming duration.
  2. If subs wants to roam for a specific duration, send GROAM ON <START DATE mm/dd/yyyy> <no. of days> to 2884 (i.e. GROAM ON 09/15/2008 28 and send to 2884).
  3. Roaming activation should be done at least 24 hours before departure. You will receive confirmation via text once your International Roaming is activated. Activation via text is FREE of charge.

God Bless on your journey! :)

As others have stated above, make sure that your roaming is already activated before you depart. Otherwise you will find yourself anxious and frustrated because you can't call your baby. :P

Have a safe flight home and welcome to the USA!

I just gave my wife the pin number to a prepaid calling card and she called me from a pay phone when she was in hawaii. If you are using a prepaid sim and you want to make a call I believe you need at least 200 Php on it to make a call.....texting will work at about 20 Php a text (at least that is what my SMART roaming SIM is)

Have a safe trip!

the hubby buying a pre-paid calling card here in the US and giving you the info to use that calling card is the best and cheapest option. your hubby can buy a $5 calling card. using your globe for roaming calls will cost you a pretty penny.

When I arrived in Manila, I borrowed a cell phone from a Pinoy on the plane and called Chinook.

When Chinook arrived here in Seattle, she was able to text me from her cell phone. I don't know who her cell phone provider was.

If you are going to use the pay phone in the airport here in the U.S., don't forget to bring some quarters (twenty-five cent coins).
