We have Alltel and couldnt be happier with the service it works no matter where we have travelled in the US. We have the 2phone plan for me and hubby and get 1000 shared minutes between us which we hardly ever use all of them because its free calls after 7pm and weekends and they have this thing called "My circle of friends" which if you call these certain friends there is no charge. We also get free mobile to mobile and mobile to home etc. We tried Cingular before this and could hardly keeps bars on the phone but with Alltel there seems to always be bars even when where travelling out in the country!

I'm happy with Cingular, mainly because they're coverage is excellent and they use GSM phones unlike Verizon, which work when I'm in the UK (and Italy and Brazil, etc...).

I had Verizon for years, but dumped them because of their shitty attitude towards their customers, for example crippling their phones bluetooth ability.

really? i didn't know they deleted the bluetooth ability... i thought it was a mistake when they installed a software version with no bluetooth capability

My Verizon Razr phone works with my Bluetooth headset. *shrug*

That said, I think we are going to switch to Cingular when my fiance gets here. We like the idea of those phones working when we go to the UK.

Yep...we have the family plan with Verizon and have had no problems whatsoever. Bluetooth works perfectly, even using it through one of those fancy car Bluetooth facilities. So few dropped calls, not even worth mentioning. Personally I wouldn't have any other carrier, but that's just me!

Don't go with T-Mobile. The coverage is shitty, and dropped calls are rather more common than they'd like you to believe.

agreed. I have t-mobile and they stink. I used to love ATT (now cingular).

I have verizon-I don't have may issues with the service itself(but the customer service people are rude).

Never any dropped calls & when I call Ireland-there is no problem at all...............well except for the $300 a month I pay. Not bad considering a year ago-they charged $1.85 a minute & now it is only .20 cents.

But my man will be here soon & I won't have to worry about those bills anymore

I may have to start buying food again which will feel strange :P

We have family plan on Cingular and it's good service but we don't use enough minutes...if we drop down we LOSE our rollovers and then we are afraid we won't have enough,.

It's like the one plan is too big, one is too small and we wnat one that is just right :(

I have heard of this but I am calling mobile to mobile :( If I had known that I would have spent thousands on phone bills..............I would have just bought us both laptops :( Thank God I won't be dealing with the bills for much longer.

I have both Cingular and Sprint (the joy of having a company cell phone...) and my Sprint coverage is better provided I don't go too far from the I-95. They also have better roaming agreements than Cingular. That said, my Cingular phone works more often.

On balance, I'd keep Cingular.

Skype costs 17 cent to call irish mobiles as well. The coverage may be sketchy at times but it works for me as i call my family back home about 4 times a week.

I read about it before-I should have looked into it

I also didn't think we would have been waiting as long as we did for his approval either

We have T-Mobile and we're OK with it. I like the fact that it's only a one year commitment, and they'll unlock the phone for you if you ask. When we're travelling we get local SIM cards so we're making local calls, but you have to unlock the phone first.
