(Reuters) - At least 31 people were killed and more than 100 injured on Monday in a suicide bombing at Russia's biggest airport, Russian news agencies reported.

...

The blast ... ripped through the baggage claim area at Moscow's Domodedovo airport at 1332 GMT.

Smoke wafted out of the baggage claim area and people were seen running out of the emergency exits at the airport, local media reported.

Cont'd from your link:

Initial casualty figures were contradictory with ITAR-TASS saying about 20 people had been killed. A spokeswoman for prosecutors put the number of casualties at about 20.

Moscow suffered its worst attack in six years in March 2010 when two female suicide bombers from Russia's volatile Dagestan region set off explosives in the metro, killing 40 people.

The Kremlin is struggling to contain an Islamist insurgency in the mainly Muslim North Caucasus, and rebels have repeatedly vowed they will take their battle to the Russian heartland.

India, gun buyback and steamroll.

If we've learned anything about Russia in the last decade or so, I think it is that they don't eff around. Remember when that chechnyan group took that school hostage? I have no doubt that very soon, those responsible for this will soon perish.

They've been making folks in that area perish for quite a while.

Olga still wants to meet there in Domodedovo, assuming they are open Friday. She says we can stay out of crowded areas, avoid the metro, etc. This suddenly starts feeling a bit too close for comfort, I have stood right there where the bomb went off and would have been there again Friday in that very spot! I don't know the answer, other than being thankful we will be living in a very rural place after she moves here.

Chances are you will be safe...i'm pretty sure they doubled and quadroupled the airport security...and chances are for another attack in such short time it's not very likely...

be safe!

I am sure you are right about security, it will probably be massive everywhere around Moscow! Thank you for your concern!

Looks like the religion of peace has made the headlines again. Does anyone see a pattern going on here?

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

+1 Russia and it's lapdog butcher Kadyrov have made it a habit of torturing, raping, dismembering, and murdering Chechnyans, journalist, and human rights workers. You think Russia would get the clue by now that Chechnyan's don't want them there.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

I don't know the answer,

The answer is to keep on living life and ignore the terrorists. Go to the public places. Have fun as you planned to do.

Don't give in! When you change your life.... they win.

They're hard-headed. And permanently sh!t-faced so it's not likely they'll change tactics anytime soon.

I know that you are right. But it always is easier in theory. It is hard to do something involving my fiancee and her two children that seems to put them in any avoidable danger. But I also refuse to be 'terrorized' and that creates a dilemma. I guess one must somehow rationalize that the danger is actually low, which it probably is with the huge number of russian military I am expecting to see there. So maybe we will get out to see all the sights. Moscow in winter! I am still looking forward to it but now with some anxiety mixed in!
