I have a Jewish (ok, a stereotypically Jewish) hook nose and I'm not interested in realigning it or anything, just cutting off the tip of it. My mother wants to buy a nose job for me because she said it's going to look pretty ugly when I get older, like my grandma's, which is très Wicked Witch. My dad has already had the tip of his cut off because it started to impede his breathing. Mom and brother were blessed with little Norwegian noses.

Has anyone been through this? Recommend it? Think I'm shallow and vain? Offer to do a photoshopping for me?

Few people do look their best as they age, its part of the process. When you hit 40-50, you can fix one thing, but its a fair bet that something else will break - either you end up learning to live with it, or you end up like Michael Jackson.

Personally, I think it comes down to psychology and I'm not convinced that the majority of people who have cosmetic surgery really need it, or look that "offensive" to begin with. Of course, you have to be comfortable with who you are, so surely that's a major part of it.

There was a TV programme the other night which featured a severely facially disfigured toddler - who was mentally and otherwise completely physically normal but had a face that was for lack of a more appropriate word "completely monstrous". Can't imagine anyone having to go through life looking like that... In that case, plastic surgery would probably be a blessing.
