How and when to request passport same day as interview.

I would ask at the consulate itself on the day of the interview. There is really no other way to ask as emailing is useless (if we're talking about Montreal). Explain the circumstances for needing it back and offer to return in 24-48 hours if possible. You probably won't get it any sooner than that and they may not be thrilled about you asking for anything quicker.

Hi, my fiance has an interview on the 21st. She has a trip planned to India for a week after that. My question is how does one go about requesting passport on the same day as the interview, ie same day processing of the visa?

the passport will be needed during the interview,st.lukes will get it from you, then they will forward to usem, for the interview

Best case scenario, they will let her come back the next day to pick it up. However, they do this very rarely. Does she have a backup plan if they deny her request? Hopefully they don't, but there is definitely no guarantee they will expedite printing.

You could email mtl with ur case # in subject line--they may or may not answer (probably not). And at interview again explain the situation! You may have to decide to chance it and hope they mail the passport and visa to you in time, OR she keeps her cdn passport, goes to India, returns to Canada, THEN mails the passport back to Montreal Consulate and waits for them to return it with the visa! BUT do ask, and politely state your situation, others have been successful! If you have Proof of going to India (plane tickets) i would bring that! I'm sure they have many people that say they need the visa right away, if ya catch my drift, lol if you have proof, the "may" be more likely to grant ur wish!! good luck

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

And there have been a few people get the visa the same day!! At 1 time thats how it used to be! then new procedures came along, in 2005/2006.

Also DHL has been fast in some cases....so you never know.

There have been a few people that have been able to pick there passports up the next day , they had valid reasons and explained the situation.

I wish you luck :)

Agree with the others. (Except "bill n lette", of course. ) Back in the day I picked mine up the same day as my interview, but I think the soonest you can hope for these days is next day pickup. But I was given the option of sending the passport in when I was finished travelling and was ready to have the visa issued. Definitely bring the travel tickets, as Flames says, and explain the circumstances at the interview.

I plan to do the same thing. Since I will be getting the time off work to go to interview and move my wife back, Ill only have that week to do it since I wont have the time off work. Hopefully that is legitimate reason enough to issue the Visa in 24 hours.

I hope it works out for you, but I am sure many others are in the same situation with taking time off work to be there. I'd have a secure backup plan in the event Montreal won't issue it that quickly.

Agree with trying to email Montreal ahead of time to see if they can accommodate your request (unlikely). If not, asking the day of the interview may work.

Just an FYI: it took my passport just under 2 weeks to arrive via DHL to me (and I was in the Toronto area). To be safe, it may be easier to change/delay the trip if possible.

Just out of curiousity, how do people manage to get on a plane and fly back home without their passports? We`re flying from Vancouver to Montreal and returning the day after the interview. I have a Nexus pass and driver`s licence but my teenage daughter has no picture ID except for her passport. Am I mistaken about needing our passports to travel within Canada?
