I signed. I would frankly recommend that we all write individual letters to President Bush and other highly placed people like our senators, congresspeople, minority and/or majority leaders, etc. One letter is all you really have to write...then just change the names and headings. Pretty quick process really. But the more noise we make, the more likely someone will actually pay attention. I have a few other tricks up my sleeve, as well. I'll fill you in soon. The old saying is true, though..."The squeaky wheel gets the grease." If that doesn't hold true at the CSC, then we'll have to go over their heads...I've made lots of constructive, respectful noise before in other situations and come out on top. No reason we all can't do it with this one. It has to stay respectful, though. The minute we start going overboard, we'll be dismissed as rabble-rousers. We have to talk the language of the people in Washington...

January 2004: Met Laurent at the Bibliothèque nationale in Paris

February 2004: We became an actual couple

January 29th, 2006: I left France to return to the United States--AWFUL to say goodbye!

June 2006: Finally convinced Laurent that a K-1 visa would be more time-effective than trying to get an H-1

August 1st, 2006: The K-1 petition is finally in the mail and on its way to Nebraska...WooHoooo!! And yes, I remembered to attach the check! :-)

August 3rd, 2006: USPS online tracking shows that my petition (sent certified) was received at the NSC at 5:05am

August 14th, 2006: NOA1 received USPS!! (I-129F recv'd at CSC: 8/4; NOA date: 8/10; last touched: 8/11)

October 2nd, 2006: I MISTAKENLY thought we had an approval...False alarm...Back to waiting...

October 3rd, 2006: TOUCHED!!

October 4th, 2006: REALLY AND TRULY APPROVED!!! Email notification lists 10/3 as the NOA2 date.

Later that same day: TOUCHED...AGAIN! Hope that means I'm in a cozy box and moving to NVC this week...

October 10th, 2006: Received official NOA2 via snail mail.

October 19th, 2006: Case received at NVC!! AWESOME!!

October 20th, 2006: Case forwarded to Paris!! DHL says two shipments were headed that way. Must be in there somewhere...

October 27th, 2006: Received official receipt letter from NVC via USPS.

Yup, I saw that, Onyxrev. Excellent!!

I also wrote to someone at the most widely read city newspaper this evening suggesting a serialized story on our situation. I proposed that they track myself and others through this process while investigating all that is going wrong. Whoever it was that said we need to get the media involved...I was already thinking along exactly those lines. If we all got our local papers involved, that would create enough of a stir that we could get ourselves picked up by television reports. That's where the real pressure is...Anybody else with me...? Let's build some more momentum. Time for a little justice where USCIS and especially the CSC is concerned!! :bonk:

Let's do this thing!!

I am definately with you. Just talked with my Senators office and they told me that CSC said wait anohter 60 DAYS! That will put me at 7 months! Please people, sign the petition. We have to do this appropriately, but the news outlets need to see that we are interested in fixing this cluster, and they WILL pick up the story....it is a story that not only needs to be told, but needs to be told so others don't have to go through this huge mess!

I'm down for making a fuss in the media. In fact, I'm used to that approach! I'll ask my sweetie if she'd mind some publicity...

Of course, it is possible that if there is a Congressional Inquiry conducted, it will have the opposite effect desired. If you think it's moving slow now, what do you think they will do if they "know" congress will coming snooping around? STOP working on petitions, and work on covering their butts as best as possible. Sorry guys, I've workd for the govt, and I know how covering your butt is the primary concern when on the job.

It has to be said that a single well worded, personal letter sent to your congressman or senator is worth 100 online petitions. Not wishing to put down the OP, the idea is admirable, I'm just saying that I've seen many online petitions come and go, and they've made little impact, much like email campaigns.

However politians respond very well to paper letters, so I encourage everyone who signs this petition to back it up with a letter.

The online petition is to allow us all to send letters to your Senators saying, "See, we aren't the only one that thinks there needs to be change." The letter is not simply an online thing for me. I have been in contact with both Senators Office's and they both agree something is broke, but I don't think they understand the magnitude, and THAT is what I think the online petition shows.

Also, as far as govt stopping...do you really think that will happen when immigration is a large topic of discussion, oh let's say for 15 million people????and a larger voting base. I personally dont' think so.

This is a fair comment, but I still think online petitions are too easily dismissed. Really I was just trying to reinforce the fact that this petition needs to be backed up by letters, to give it any credibility. Sounds like that is what you had in mind, so good.

:) I think we are on the same page. I do agree that sometimes they get dismissed, but they don't always, just depends on the circumstances, and I think this whole USCIS is so broke that it wouldn't get dismissed.

I mispoke I should have said 15+ million POTENTIAL voters. Reference to the minimum number of estimates of people here illegally, that the government is trying to figure out who to get them here or to stay legally.
