Is it necessary to by a return ticket for fiancée?

It may be a strange question. K1 visa suggests immigration, but it is still not an immigration visa, and for a non-immigration visas US officials can ask to present a return ticket at the border.

May 15, 2006 - sent documents for AOS

May 23, 2006 - NOA date

June 13, 2006 - biometrics

June 29, 2006 - NOA for an initial interview on August 21, 2006

August 21, 2006 - Successful interview in San Francisco

Even though its a non-immigrant visa, they obviously expect immigration eventually. When James went through the POE with his one-way ticket, the first thing they did was ask how long he was going to stay. He answered, 'permanently, I am getting married' and the officer just asked for the K-1 visa stuff and there were no other questions.

Timeline:

11-15-2005: Sent in I-129F to VSC

11-21-2005: NOA1

11-29-2005: NOA2

12-05-2005: NVC recieved

12-17-2005: Packet 3 received from Dublin

1-11-2006: Sent packet 3 forms, etc. to Dublin

2-03-2006: Interview Date :)APPROVED!!!

2-05-2006: Flying to Logan Airport

2-11-2006: Wedding Date

3-14-2006: Filed AOS and EAD

3-22-2006: NOA1 (AOS and EAD)

4-07-2006: Biometrics

6-07-2006: EAD approved!!

7-24-2006: AOS Interview APPROVED!!!

7-27-2006: Received Welcome to America letter

8-03-2006: Green Card Received :)

Go with whatever is the cheapest option.....sometimes a return ticket is less than a one-way for some unknown reason!

06/01/2007 - Date on NOA (1 day after they received our package!)

06/11/2007 - NOA and Biometrics notice received via snail-mail

06/21/2007 - Biometrics taken

05/14/2008 - Approved (notified via email)

05/21/2008 - Card received

As ladybird said- it is usually cheaper to buy a one way ticket. My fiance and I looked for tickets from London to NY and we saved ourselves about 240 pounds per ticket buying a round trip!! Go Figure!!! :P

October 31, Embassy received petition

November 1, Embassy called to set up fingerprint appointment
