We have, or had a decent garden. Had about 20 four foot tall tomatoes, green beans, cucumbers, etc until last night when a very unusual frost pretty much ended that. At least the grapefruit tree is fine and loaded with fruit.

Damn I hate cold weather. Was 31 when I went to work this morning. At least it will be back up into the high 70's by Friday.

Wife's best plant is a HUGE Christmas cactus that is in full bloom. She rescued it from my parents who were trying to kill it.

OMG! I guess if it doesn't burn up it's all good...

Just out of curiosity...has anyone else's wife/fiance been growing their own veggies/herbs (and no...not that kind of herb Slim)? My wife was thrilled to have a little bit of land where she could grow stuff herself. It's been fun seeing what works and what doesn't...holy moly did she grow a lot of cucumbers! lol

Alla was, and is, thrilled to have some property but her passion was to grow flowers (and she does!) She was not attracted to growing vegetables once she saw all the variety available at our grocery stores and farmers markets. She does love her flowers and sunbathing in the backyard.

We have two apple trees and she just goes wild about making "compote" and says it is one of her favorite things about living here. She even picks up all the apples that fall on the ground. The standards for compote are pretty low.

Oh yeah, every time we talk about getting a stand alone house or dacha with some ground around it Mila gets a little dreamy eyed.

She's going to be shocked when she comes home one day this Spring and sees the home made "topsy-turvey" planters with tomato and cuke plants in em. They work, btw. My first attempt at it only produced one tomato, but then there wasn't enough sun on that side of the house for it. Here we get a good 8-10 hours on our south facing balkone.
