Airline baggage weight limits for Russia to USA

if she's flying coach its only one checked bag the next will be extra charges.

My wife flew coach with two bags, no extra fees. This was about four years ago so things may've changed.

Put little sticky notes around the thermostats and oven controls with conversions.

Same with labeling stuff. You can put the English words for things on sticky notes and that'll help her (and you if you put Russian too) learn household items. We still have several lists of words and labels on things.

Actually I'm flying JetBlue from Maine to JFK on Sunday (50# limit)and Aerosvit JFK-SIP (20 kg) BOTH airlines allow 1 free checked bag, a 10 kg carry on (they never weight it though so "if it fits it ships"), and personal bag or laptop bag.

I agree with the crowd though, that for the price of your ticket (and visa) you could pay for the extra bag(s), ship a lot of stuff AND meet her at JFK to escort her the rest of the way to P-Burg.

OK, A CORRECTION HERE.

Yes, Aerosvit DOES still weight carry on. Thank GOD they allow TWO (not 1 as I stated above) that's TWO checked bags up to 23 KG each. I said thank God as one of my carry ons was a bit over weight.

Yup a few things have changed since then.

-When I went to Y O in July 2008 Delta allowed two 50# bags.

-In '09 it was down to 1 50#er.

-I flew Aeroflot in Sept/Oct and they were using the now standard, 20kg limit.

-Now most airlines cut it off at 20 KG (44#), but for some reason Aerosvit allows 23 kg (50#) still and 2 bags.

It will take a few weeks for her to understand that the thermostat can be left alone. When Alla was cold, she would turn it ALL the way up (it heats faster that way) and then when she was hot she would turn it ALL the way down. She was also turning it down when it was hot in the summer, but we don't have air conditioning.

There are certain things that will just perplex them. There are things I'd never in a million years expect my wife to have trouble with but it torments her and she can't do it. Then, there are other things that give her no problems at all. I've given up on trying to guess which is which.

OP might consider S7 from Kemerovo to Moscow-Domodedovo and then connect to Singapore Air to Houston. There are non-stops from Houston to Pittsburg.

Sibir (S7) will have restrictive luggage issues for the Russia domestic, similar to Aeroflot. But Aeroflot continues the restrictions (or at least, they did) for international flights coming out of Moscow and you won't have that problem with Singapore. You might find Singapore's prices attractive, too. An added benefit is that Singapore comes through Domodedovo and OP's finance will simply have to walk down the hall to get from S7 to Singapore. That's a whole lot better than dealing with the hassle of transfer from Sheremetovo 1 to Sheremetovo 2.

If at all possible, OP should make sure that the fiance has a credit card in order to address overweight luggage fees ... although perhaps the Kemerov airport, unlike other Siberian airports, won't be in a position to cope with a western credit card.

The thermostst thing is still one of the funniest things. I was hanging a picture on the wall in the summer, one of those rare HOT days we get and noticed the thermostat was turned all the way down to 50 degrees. I did not know why, the heat system was off and of course there would be no need for heat anyway so why would the thermosta....oh. "Alla" Yes. "Did you turn the thermostat down to 50 degrees?" Yes. "Why?" I was hot. "Really? Are you still hot?" Yes, but not so much.

Placebo effect.

I just had an idea (I hate when that happens, it hurts) Get thermostats and screw then to the wall in every room, then stealthily hide the REAL thermostat.

Alla breaks everything anyway, not on purpose, but she just does. If you gave her an anvil, she would break it. You would find her sitting on a chair looking at the broken anvil and saying "I don't know what happened, it is just broken"

The other day she had a brilliant idea to clean all her bakeware...roasting pans, cookie sheets, etc. She piled them all in the oven and put the thing on "Clean". I came home and the house was full of smoke. I said "Seems like whatever you are cooking is done" She said with a big smile..."I am cleaning, not cooking!"

After the smoke cleared, I have to admit...it worked!

My life reminds me of that show "Green Acres"

OMG! I guess if it doesn't burn up it's all good...

Just out of curiosity...has anyone else's wife/fiance been growing their own veggies/herbs (and no...not that kind of herb Slim)? My wife was thrilled to have a little bit of land where she could grow stuff herself. It's been fun seeing what works and what doesn't...holy moly did she grow a lot of cucumbers! lol

I have an Aerogarden myself. It grows herbs and lettuce. But you can also grow tomatos and flowers indoor. My girl has always been envious of it and they don't have it in Moscow.

If I had land I would grow stuff. That little plot of grass everyone has in their front uard is just a stupid waste of space. You can't even walk on it for risk of being yelled at or are the one doing the yelling
