Quick question...my husband is worried that once we get approved and he can come to the states that his credit won't be able to transfer. Is this true? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It may be different for Canada, but coming from the UK my credit history didn't follow, which is good. I had a terrible history there, so starting again is pretty good.

I have signed up for a pre-payed credit card that is the only card i could get that will boost my credit score.

Add your husband to one or two of your credit cards that you've had for long time and possibly to some of your loans which are in good standing. This will automatically transfer onto his credit. It is at least a start. He will have to continue to build his own from there.

If you mean "Credit Rating" that's true, he'll need to establish credit in the USA. It's fairly easy to do so once he has a job.

Once I got a job I started getting 3 junk mails from Capital One per week, practically begging me to sign up for a card. The mortgage officer at my bank (my wife and I are looking at getting a house in the next year) said the best way to build credit would be to sign up for one of these cards, and use it a little [i.e. for gas. Don't use more than about 25% of it's capacity] and pay it off completely every month.

So that's what I'm doing.

It actually works better to get at least two cards. Keeping a balance is OK and actually builds credit faster, as long as it's less than half the available credit. Far less than half would be better as is making far more than the minimum payment. Many of the cards will charge no interest for a few months. Avoid any offers of cards with application fees. There are plenty available without any fees.
