Submit social security number on change of status?

Hello,

My wife, who is currently on a tourist visa here in the U.S. is about to file for an adjustment of status. A couple of years ago, she was here on a J1 visa and was assigned a social security number. My questions is, should she use that social security number when filing for an adjustment of status, or should she say she doesn't have one. (Her social security card states it is valid for work only with DHS authorization, which has expired by now.)

Any info would be appreciated,

Christopher

Her SSN is her SSN for life. Use that one. Once she gets the GC she can get that "work authorization" wording taken off of her SS card.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

Should your wife truthfully submit the SSN that was rightfully assigned for her or should she lie to USCIS and, assuming they find out anyway, maybe blackmail the Immigration Officer or kidnap his child so that he would have to approve her AOS petition anyway?

Let me think about that for a minute, Russian Mafia style . . .

:bonk:

Still can't wrap my mind about it. Well, it's my birthday, so perhaps I'm distracted . . .

Let me sleep on it . . . I'll get back to you with a suggestion in the morning . . .

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

Never implied to lie, just curious if it was still valid. Thanks to the others for the replies.

She will not get a new Social Security Number. I'm sure you meant a new SSN Card with the same number just without the work restriction.

For the record, there are very rare situations where the Social Security Administration will assign a new SS number to a person. One of those rare interesting cases is the witness protection program :)
