Here's what it's about. 10 years ago my mother got herself, my little brother and I a B1/B2 visa and we visited my uncle in the US for a month.

My visa is still valid and to be precise it will expire on January 31st 2012. I never visited the US again.

I am planning a visit to the states this summer. Some friends told me I should check with the consulate because even though I have this visa right now, when I'll fly to the US they might say it's not valid anymore because I got it when I was a kid and I haven't even been to the US in 10 years.

What do you think of that? Is it true? Possible? What should I do about it then?

Thanks in advance.

I don't think you can "age out" of a tourist visa. It's expiration date is it;s expiration date and it should be good until it's expiration date. Since it's good for 6 months after your date of travel I would be very surprised if you had any problems.

That said, it certainly won't hurt to contact the local consulate and find out for sure.

DON'T PANIC

The visa is valid until the day it expires and you can even ENTER the US on the very last day as the visa grants permission to ENTER until the expiration day of the visa. The permission to stay is carried by the I-94. If you enter with a B2, you will have no problems at all, as CBP Officers know how difficult it has become to get one.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

Tell your Friends to "go and kick rocks." :bonk::bonk:

You are elegible to use your visa... as long AS it is not expired and WILL not expire six months from the date you enter the usa or if they allow you to enter the stay will not be authorized beyound the expiration of the visa. But you are able to renew it 6 months leading up to the epiratioin.

Now what YOU should know is that .. IF asked you must be able to show that you have the intent to return to your country the visa makes you elegible to travel to the usa.. the immigration office at the border makes the final decision.

Hope this helps...

Ok, now that is a totally different story. So I should prepare some evidence that I plan to return. What can come off as strong evidence?

Ok, now that is a totally different story. So I should prepare some evidence that I plan to return. What can come off as strong evidence?

Job, Educational Institution, Property (like car, house, land, buisness ownership co-owner etc), Family, Financial things like (loans, bonds, etc)

Because entry is at the discretion of the CBP officer, they can ask practically anything they want. They can also be as strict or loose with the "ties" evidence as they want to be. It depends on the particular CBP officer, what they think of you, and even what side of the bed they woke up on.

If they ask why you're visiting the US, be honest. This is always something that they will ask.

My Mom/Dad always travelled to the USA yearly and ONLY stay 2 weeks .. they were NEVER asked to show proof that they would return home after the trip and that is since 1984. It maybe different since you havent travelled in a while and it's going towards the last leg/year of your visa. What I think is a high possibility that travelling under the terms and allowed time of your authorized stay will make it easier for the Renewal process should you decided to do so. Just be prepared than not... but NothinG to worry about

Hope this helped.
