Virginia Bill Asks For Tea Party License Plate

LicensePlateImage.jpg

"Don't Tread On Me" soon may become an oft-used expression on Virginia roads.

A state lawmaker is proposing a bill to create a license plate for Virginians to express solidarity with the spirit of the Tea Party movement.

At the request of constituents, Henrico County Republican Del. John O'Bannon has filed legislation to establish a "Don't Tread On Me" license plate.

The plate features the rattlesnake emblem and yellow background of the historic Gadsden Flag, which has become a symbol for the Tea Party movement.

The Virginian-Pilot reports that about 600 people have expressed interest in the plates through a group tied to the Virginia Tea Party Patriots federation.

Before a specialty plate can be issued in Virginia, 350 prepaid applications must be submitted to the state Department of Motor Vehicles. Virginia has issued more than 200 different specialty plates over the years.

According to 912RichmondVa.com, it would cost $10 extra for a standard "Don't Tread On Me" plate and an extra $20 for a personalized version.

The "application form" that the website is collecting can be found here.

Virginia isn't the only state considering adding a Tea Party plate. Texas is pondering the same thing.

As blue as the state is becoming, clueless idiots still plague the other end of town.

For anyone in Richmond to be anti-government / anti-investment is just laughable. That puny little city needs all of the investment it can get.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Question: Will this license plate cost money to register each year? :bonk:

Speaking of tolerance, where are the ACORN plates? Or how about pro choice plates seeing that there are pro life plates in just about all states? Yeah, that's what I thought.

"Don't Tread On Me" ....

A symbol for the left and right, for all who value America's liberties and traditions of defending freedom!

230px-Naval_Jack_of_the_United_States.svg.png

Naval Jack of the United States

Gadsden flag

Considered one of the first flags of the United States, the flag was later replaced by the current Stars and Stripes (or Old Glory) flag. Since the Revolution, the flag has seen times of reintroduction as a symbol of American patriotism, a symbol of disagreement with government, or a symbol of support for civil liberties.

For instance, unofficial usage of the Gadsden flag by the U.S. government has been seen, particularly in the wake of September 11, 2001, most notably by the Customs Service and harbor patrol boats in U.S. ports and individuals serving abroad in the U.S. military. The First Navy Jack, which was directly related to the Gadsden flag, has also been in use by the U.S. Navy, and since the terrorist attack on the WTC and pentagon, on all active naval ships. The rattlesnake from the flag is shown on the U.S. Army's Drill Sergeant Identification Badge.

Not as easy as you thought, buddy.

Feb 2010: Activists are pushing a "Trust Women/Protect Choice" license plate in Virginia, which would become only the fourth state to offer a pro-choice plate and the first to require legislative approval for it.

so there's 3 that already do it - you just proved yourself wrong in your earlier statement.

1, The tea party is not "anti-Govt" however it is anti bloated and anti-wasteful government.

2. Are you recycling a little Bill Clinton lingo... confusing tax (Involuntary) with Investments (Voluntary)?

Using the phrase 'teabagger' makes him an intellectual among the left.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

The phrase 'teabagger' relative to the tea party movement actually came from within that movement. They weren't - and I'd argue still aren't - thinking clearly and found themselves with a self-devised label that they don't like all that much after all. I think Bill Maher analyzed best what happened:

“When the year started, ‘teabagging’ was a phrase that referred to dangling one’s testicles in someone else’s face.” And the tea-party protesters “managed to turn it into something gross and ridiculous.”
